SNSD Reported As The #1 Victim Of Music Piracy in 2010

Although last year was a successful year for the girls as they brought in the most profits for SM Entertainment and came on top for almost everything including music charts, best artist of the year, the girl group blessed with the most awards, and most wanted product endorsers, ironically, SNSD also came in No.1 for artistes who incurred the highest losses due to piracy in 2010 according to an investigation.

On January 14th, Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry of Korea and the Copyright Protection Center of Korea Copyright Association have released the analysis of statistics for media piracy in 2010.

According to the webboard chart for music category, SNSD topped the list with 35,354 points, followed by 2NE1

Hoot Achieves Gold Status in Japan

Whoever doubted SNSD could sell 100,00 copies of their Korean repackage album Hoot in Japan in less than a month is in trouble trouble trouble now!!

The chart reveals all…

Congratulations to the girls for another spectacular achievement!! And if you think these results are amazing, just wait until they release their first full Japanese album 😀 In addition to gold the other certifications in the Western Album category include platinum and double platinum. If the success of Hoot is any indication, I foresee RIAJ having to come up with a new certification that goes beyond nine double platinum, just for SNSD. I think ‘Pastel Rose (Quartz)’ might do them justice. What do you guys think?

Wall Street Journal on SNSD’s Youtube Advantage

On January 15th, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) published an online article titled “YouTube Helps South Korean Band Branch Out”, describing how SM Entertainment used Youtube to propel Girls’ Generation into the foreign market.

WGJ starts out mentioning SNSD‘s  first Japan showcase at Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo. The Journal offers two solutions for the successful foreign debut: a Japanese song and Youtube.

We had reported a few days back about the new “collaboration” between Intel and SNSD! We knew a song was going to be released, along with a music video. Details are finally out about this now!

The title of the song will be “Visual Dreams” and will be released via music sites like Melon, Dosirak, Bugs, etc on the 17th! The following day will be the music video’s release through SM’s Youtube site, SNSD’s official website, and Intel sites. As I’m writing this post, a TEASER will be out in about 44 minutes!! Pay attention to this post, we’ll update it as soon as it’s out!

“Banmal Song” (MINUS Seohyun) Released!

Ever since the YongSeo’s/Sweet Potato Couple’s self-recorded UCC video was uploaded on YouTube, revealing their “Banmal Song”, it became a hit as many fell in love with it and hoped for a studio or official duet version to be released. If you recall on January 5th, it was decided that there WOULD be a studio or official version released on the 14th, but unfortunately, the version would only be sung by Yonghwa himself and parts of the lyrics that Seohyun helped to complete in the original “Banmal Song” would not be included (the reason being that a duet between the two would be impossible due to SNSD’s and CN BLUE’s busy schedules).

Like the news had said, the studio or official version of “Banmal Song” has been released earlier today on the 14th with the new alternative title, “For The First Time Lovers”/”For The First Time Couples In Love”, and although the song is only sung by Yonghwa,

Korean Traditional Music Wants SNSD

SNSD’s music provides a little something to suit everyone’s musical tastes and needs. Fans of funky dance tracks, irresistible pop beats and bittersweet ballads all find common ground where these nine girls are concerned. And virtually every other genre is showcased not necessarily on albums but through countless covers.

So where do fans of traditional music stand? More specifically Pansori, a Korean form involving one vocalist and one percussionist telling a story through song. Well those fans will have something to fantasize about now, at least, as top Korean traditional music educator Ahn Sookseon admitted during a broadcast of KBS 2TV’s ‘Free Time’ that she would like to work with SNSD.

No seriously, SNSD is actually taking over the world. *gasp* xD

With SNSD’s ‘conquest‘ of Japan, we knew that Asia was pretty much taken.

When you see SNSD clips played on loop at the 2011 CES and hundreds of screaming SONEs at SMtown LA you know that something is up in North America.

SNSD on Polish TV?… Europe is being won over…

An exclusive partnership with a globally renown technology company (which also happens to be the world’s largest semiconductor chip maker, based on revenue) and you know global domination is just round the corner…

AND NOW…. it appears that the pink wave has made its way to South America!

Recently, a Peruvian TV station in Chiclayo aired a special kpop program which of course mentioned the girls and showed several cuts from ‘Oh!’ and ‘Hoot!’.

SM town seniors TVXQ just released the regular edition of their 5th album, ‘Keep Your Head Down‘ today! The regular edition includes a bonus track, ‘Journey’,  featuring SNSD‘s very own maknae. Reportedly, ‘Journey’ will also be an OST track for TVXQ’s Changmin’s upcoming drama, ‘Paradise Ranch‘.
