I was putting together some data on SNSD’s sales so far in 2013 since we passed the half-year mark a while ago, but I realised that some fans might not understand the true meaning of the data in terms of what it really means for SNSD. So I’ve ended up with a chunk of text about SNSD’s 2013 performance thus far, how it compares to their previous years, as well as some background info on how the Korean entertainment industry works. This might be a boring read for some of you…sorry!

I’ve been listening to a lot of SNSD songs these past few days or weeks(?), and for some reason, I started to listen more and more to the more relaxing songs, rather than the upbeat ones. I used to spam IGAB, Gee, Oh! and all the other title songs on my computer while doing assignments and projects, because it’s just keeps me awake. But when it comes to those songs that are meant to make you wind down, close your eyes, sit back and just chill, I was reminded once again how talented SNSD really are in this area. Below are some of their ballads that I really, really love listening to, because they are stress-relievers, I kid you not.
I’l start off with some of their solo works, as I feel that it would be a shame not including them here.

It’s the 10th of February, now everybody sit down! Let’s all take a moment of silence and reminisce the past. Exactly 23 years ago, perhaps God felt that the world lacked something. He looked back at His previous 6 creations and went deep into thought.

Let’s face it, IGAB is probably the most experimental song in Soshi’s discography. Let’s forget the fact that many people are crying about this song because it sounds weird, people cried about Gee as well because it was too poppy and trying to be overly cute.
I’ve put this song on repeat for a few days straight now and I actually really enjoy it. However, I can understand how people don’t, it’s not really pop…it’s an experimental variation of pop elements. My musical tastes start with rock and metal, and it evolved into Progressive Metal/rock, and I feel that IGAB has links to progressive music. I’ll be analysing why people who LOVE kpop seem to be afraid of this song so much, and why people seem to find it difficult to listen to.
THIS IS A LONG READ, but it might give a very good insight as to why the song is done the way it is, and hopefully will garner more appreciation.
