With the SNSD’s rapidly growing popularity worldwide, from Asia to South America to North America to Europe, the girls have gotten many foreigners’ interest. In particular, Tyler Brûlé from the UK (United Kingdom), whom is a well-known Canadian-born journalist, editor-in-chief of ‘Monocole’, entrepeneur, magazine publisher, and columnist, recently published about the girls on UK’s ‘Financial Times‘.
On January 7th, his “The Secrets of My Brilliant Korea” column in UK’s ‘Financial Times’ talked about his trip to Seoul, Korea and his analysis of considerable Korean cultural exports. In addition, he included a list of ‘the top 10 Korean cultural contents having a very high possibility of success if they were to be exported out to foreign countries’ in the trendsetter column of the ‘Financial Times’ magazine.
“speaking of K-Pop, it’s worth losing a few minutes on YouTube watching this ensemble of leggy girls belting out their hit single ‘Run Devil Run’”.
*
The fact that Tyler Brûlé from the UK believes SNSD are one of ROK’s (Republic of Korea’s) potentially successful exports just shows that there are many foreigners out there around the globe supportive of the girls if they were to go global. I hope one day, the girls can go global and not just promote in Asian countries, but also in America or even Europe.

A part of me would love to see the girls going global but another part of me don’t want them too. Mainly maybe is because if they became global, they would be traveling all over the globe promoting and stuff and they might get over tired. also they would be rushing to places everywhere and i don’t know. they would be just so busy. Maybe it’s just me but i would love for the girls to be successful. We’ll always be with them walking along the road they would travel and support them in everything they do! Snsd jiang! :D. So Nyuh Shi dae!
Too Global i mean.
I believe SM will debut them in America sometime or another, but its all about timing. Since their current target is to strengthen the asian market, they’ll gain a lot of potential market seekers wanting to introduce them to the wider public. But I think for now, they should build their resume in asia first…that way, they’ll be considered the “real” faces of Asia. its all a matter of time until the girls end up becoming a household name here in the U.S.
I believe America wold be a very bad decision, Europe has strong ties to places like Australia, New Zealand which has strong Asian population, which would boost their popularity there also. They’ve already featured in many European TV/Papers too. And lets face it, to be popular in America you have to get your kit off, if they did that it would kill them off in Asia, whereas in parts of Europe not so much. It’s also a far bigger place, the only downfall is it’s multiple countries. If I was SM Europe would definately be the first place to target.
Not only that, with globalization becoming local faster than you can say “Twitter”, companies like Intel deal with the American market to sell their products because of the amount of revenue they receive and many other places. It makes sense because of that, a demographical location who may not have heard of SNSD are well aware of Intel’s reputation.
Using the repertoire of SNSD to promote their new products, Intel is unintentionally(?) promoting SNSD in the American market and showcasing events like the SMTown Concert 2010 as replays for display and aesthetic reasons on Intel’s HD Televisions (LED, LCD). While they aren’t physically promoting in America or any western country for the matter, said demographical location who visit Intel’s convention in the US will undoubtedly have their interest piqued when they see SNSD gracing Intel’s televisions, kind of like “promotion” if you ask me.
TRUE. SM IS SMART. THEIR NOT IDIOTS. WITH ALL THE ADS THEIR GETTING THEY’LL MAKE IT INTO THE US IN NO TIME. THEY WON’T FAIL WHERE BI RAIN AND SE7EN HAVE. I ALSO THINK BIG BANG IS OR COULD POTENTIALLY BECOME EXPORTS TOO, INCLUDING 2NE1. THESE GROUPS ARE THE HOTTEST THINGS IN ASIA SO I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF THEY BECOME THE FACE OF SOMETHING BIG. BUT ONCE SNSD OR 2NE1 BREAKS THE BARRIER THEN ITS A FREE FOR ALL FOR OTHERS WHO PLAN TO DEBUT. I F THAT HAPPENS THEN JYP WASTED TIME AND MONEY BY SENDING WG INTO THE US. NORTHERNERS HAVE PROBABLY HEARD OF THEM BUT DOWN SOUTH, I’M NOT SURE THEY DO.
well, tbh, i wouldn’t geliraneze boys like that, just because you would try to have sex with a snsd member, if given the chance. you are clearly not the standard. and also, i don’t really think that sex, or talking openly about this on a television series, is common in any culture. it might or might not be scripted. what i find surprising is, that you actually throw in the closeted gays here. where did that come from? just if these boys, let’s just assume, don’t want to have sex with snsd, but instead, let’s assume again, really want help, it makes them gay, cause they are not controlled by their dicks? you lack logic. also, i think it’s quite offensive and groundless what you wrote here.
only entertainers? winterplay is at #2..
=/ when i was posting this, i noticed winterplay and W & Whale were on the list too but i was confused b/c the sources claimed snsd were the only entertainers on there. i’ll go edit that part out then to avoid confusion :]
Winterplay and W & Whale!!!
Two groups that got me into korean music.
SNSD, the group that made me love korean music 😛
I am surprised three of my favorite korean exports 😛 are on the list.
I love Whales voice, loved it the moment I heard it.
liverpool&snsdjjang! Football fan?
For now I think what’s happening internationally for them is good, their name is being mentioned in places, people outside of the Asian music scene at least have a chance of hearing their name. Yeah, I think it wouldn’t do for them to go further abroad without having stronger name recognition (in, say, Europe or NA). As numerous and dedicated as, uh Sones or just kpop fans are in places like N/SA or Europe, I think the general public would have to be more curious, or even interested in them before they make the commitment to campaign openly in those markets. So getting mentions in articles and news shows and what have you, is at least a good way to get their name out there, especially when people otherwise unattached to Asian music do it. I’m sure the relevant parties are eyeing the possibilities, wrangling for further mention and whatever. It’s going to be an interesting year, watching this one develop.
Lol. True that. Yeah it will be. It will definitely be a much busier and hopefully wonderful year for the girls! I’m just worried that if everything moves too fast for them they might get exhausted from time to time. Hopefully that won’t happen yeah. it would be awesome for their reputation to grow even more than later year. Last year was really wonderful for them and hopefully this year would too if not even better 🙂
yeah, the health question is always a pressing one. and the further from familiar they go, the more everything else becomes a burden too. so hopefully their handlers adequately appreciate the increased burdens of campaigning outside of (East) Asia.
Also, it’s tough being a fan of soccer but not necessarily of any club. I mean, I support the Galaxy, but it’s kind of hard to really get into MLS, and I’ve got no personal connection to any international club. But still, it’s the game.
Yeah. Hopefully SM would take proper care of them. Hopefully they would be free from any injuries and may they be healthy as ever! but yeah i believe every Sone is excited to see what the girls would do this year and what they may accomplish 😀
Lol. Yes. Well the MLS is alright. Like when the United States did well in the world cup. Everyone was saying how Soccer would be big here in the states but it never did. I am an international student currently studying in the states. I watch Football in every league, But mainly the English Premier League for as you can see i support Liverpoolfc. They are doing as bad as they could do but as a Fan what can you do. You just support your team when they are up and down. 🙂 Just like we sones support the girls! during hard times and wonderful moments that the girls go through out :D.
Both So Nyuh Shi Dae and Liverpool have been my passion and will always will be. Probably the girls might have just edge it now :). But Liverpool for life nonetheless too 🙂
i hope that in their world tour europe would be included….
I would assume so, hence the “world”.
I would love them to see them truly go around the world, especially to n. america and europe, but i don’t mind them taking their time just as long as they do come 🙂
Wow~ The ladies really have a very good reputation in the whole world now~
I think if the girls was to promote out of Asia it should be Europe, since I think they are more accepting then the American music culture.
If SNSD were to promote out of Asia, they’ll have to be really careful on how they do so, if they wish to be successful and not ruin what they have going in Asia. Lots of others who have commented, I would have to agree with; let the girls’ name be put out there first, let people get curious and hear of them alittle bit before throwing them out there to do performances. Many aren’t going to listen to you if they havent heard of you. Sure you’ll gain some new fans, but you aren’t going to get the reaction one is hopeing for. I look forward to seeing how things progress the next couple of years.
SNSD is so freaking amazing!
I see why he would say that. 🙂
Again, ‘Run Devil Run’ capture international fans!
Hope SM will make ‘Run Devil Run’ as their debut song in Europe!
SNSD Forever!
The girls are, have been, will be faces and hearts of Korea, and not of any other place.
surely they are……
they derserve it….
SNSD, fighting! ^^
To liverpool&snsdjjang: “Both So Nyuh Shi Dae and Liverpool have been my passion and will always will be. Probably the girls might have just edge it now 🙂 . But Liverpool for life nonetheless too :)”…. THIS.
Hi there fellow SONE and Liverpudlian 🙂
for some reason, I feel like I don’t want them to promote in Europe or America unless their fame gets to some crazily insane height. I just think it’s better they stay in Asian markets where they’re guaranteed success, maybe having a few international concerts instead. International fans are still able to get plenty of soshi goodness right?
I do believe SME will probably research the potential business market in the West in depth first before committing to anything ;). Remember the G-20 summit in Seoul in 2010 ? Well, the girls were picked as summit ambassadors and even performed during the summit itself for some of the delegates. That itself is an acid test of the potential of the 9 ladies to represent South Korea to the rest of the world. Any mentioned in the above preceding posts, timing is everything in matters like these and SME will definitely not squander a “valuable” resource like the ladies “willy-nilly” 😉 . All we SONEs can do is just give them the necessary support as and when it is needed to encourage the ladies to do the best that they are capable of 🙂 !!!
Sorry, I meant to say ” as mentioned in the above preceding posts ” rather than “any mentioned” 😉 . My bad 😦 !
