SONEs, just who are they?
Well, according to snsdkorean’s “Soshictionary”, the term “S♡NE – [pronunciation: so-won]” is used to describe “
People of all ages who found anything unrelated to So Nyuh Shi Dae (SNSD) totally irrelevant. Note: also written as “So-One” or “SONE” because inserting the heart symbol can such a hassle thing to do.
Now, considering that the aforementioned group, “So Nyuh Shi Dae”, refers to a group of drop dead gorgeous girls as seen in the following picture…
One would be forgiven for making the assumption that the said group of people who are referred
to as SONEs would primarily consist of MALES. Fan boy “dongsaengs”, “oppas” or even “ahjusshis” who shout “GEE GEE GEE GEE” in unison at the sound of “Listen boy”
However, this assumption would be highly inaccurate. Being an SNSD fan girl myself, I know for a fact that there are many female SONEs out there, and that we are a force to be reckoned with. ^_^

#2 Have you ever heard of the pterodactyl fan girl? Or rather… have you heard the pterodactyl fan girl? Well, if you’ve watched any SNSD live performance as of Oh!, you probably would have. (During Sooyoung’s lines, you will hear a distinct high pitched ear piercing scream.)
Amazed? I was… amazed that I didn’t notice it earlier! Talk about dedication, the pterodactyl fan girl is so consistent that even SNSD knows about her!
Q: Speaking of female fans, Sooyoung, do you know that person? The person who screams in an extremely high pitch when you sing your part. (laugh)
Girls’ Generation: We all know her. (laugh)
Jessica: Shouting! (laugh)
Sooyoung: She once came to one of our birthday parties. So as a joke I said I hadn’t been able to pay her yet for her cheering this month. Furthermore, numerous female Japanese celebrities have shown their love for SNSD, which has already been previously covered on snsdkorean.
In a recent interview with Star News, the topic of Japanese fan girls was brought up again.
Q: Japan has so many girl fans, what is it like?
Tiffany: We heard that the president of the Japanese fan club was a girl as well. Of course, it is not easy to gain favor of girl fans. We feel happy when a lot of girl fans like us and copy us when they see us.
Speaking of fan club presidents or equivalent, people would have probably noticed that the founder of snsdkorean is… Boss LADY, while half the staffers here are female. 😀 Plus! Soshified’s founder is… you guessed it, not a man. =.= lol xD
Naturally, some people would attribute SNSD’s phenomenal success to the numerous amounts of SONEs. Which eventually lead to a record breaking 9 consecutive #1 wins on KBS Music Bank’s K-chart. Just what makes SNSD so “formidable”? The number of fan boys they have? So are fan boys really more dedicated? Are fan boys > fan girls? The answer… NO! While fanboys are not > fan girls, neither are fan girls > fan boys. It is because SNSD appeals to both fan boys + fan girls that right now is truly “girl’s generation”. (Pardon the lame pun)
*My overall analysis is purely based on my own opinions and should not be taken as factual 🙂

yea… theres more blue than pink… but also alot more pink than ppl expect 🙂 Soshi has one of the most balanced (gender wise) fandoms out there…… if you look at other group’s stats… its like 7/8 blue or 7/8 pink ^_^

80% of J-Sones are fangirls, that was once mentioned in a show but I don’t remember which. I am a fangirl myself and my female Sones friends > male Sones friends. So are Fan boys > Fan girls? Answer is absolutely not! Fangirls can go as crazy or even crazier than fanboys. I spent over 1k when SNSD came to Singapore for Kpop NIght when it’s not even their own concert.
SO FANGIRLS HELL YEAH! ❤ But at the end of the day, who cares we have more fanboys or fangirls, as long as there's Sones, I will be glad. 🙂

I’m a Neutral SONE, or better put in colloquial terms, a ‘Jack of All Trades’.
I’m not really onto the whole ‘Fan Boys > Fan Girls’ thing because of my aforementioned status on the matter, but as a male who comes from a myriad of backgrounds with several interests in multiple areas (SNSD being one of them), I guess I can say that perhaps the woman are slowly creeping up for world domination?
But this is just one area, so I can’t ascertain too soon.

yeah..i agree to most of the comments here..i’m a fangirl myself..LOL..actually, me and my little sis..so, basically, the “old” facts that SNSD’s fans are mostly guys..well, what we are here for right?? i also think that fangirls are more dedicated than fanboys..my cousin is a fanboy of Yuri and also most of his friends are fanboys of SNSD..but i’m more updated about soshi news than him..and i’m usually the one who shares new vids esp of Yuri and news to him..LOL..

To me there seems to be more fangirls internationally whereas in Korea maybe it’s more males. It seems fangirls become obsessed in a different way being more likely to obsessively collect merchandise and learn every detail about soshi, of course fanboys may do this too but this is my view of the international snsd fangirl community. I’ve felt a bit insecure about being a fangirl since earlier this year when I walked into a shop in Western Australia and asked about soshi cds and the women said “oh, really, usually only boys like girl’s generation” then looked at me weirdly. That annoyed me. I think every typre of person should be free to love snsd without being questioned, no matter their age, gender or nationality.

us fangirls are just overshadowed by the stereotypical fanboys. it’s because the cameras always scout for fanboys for girl groups and fangirls for boygroups. but we definitely do exist and are a big part in supporting our girls!

Thanks for creating this article :)) I personally think that fan girls of any girl groups always need more courage to show their affection for their idol girl group due to the existence of stereotypical people out there who think that it’s not-so-normal for a girl to be attracted by the same sex and then continuously show affection for their idol girl group and root for them. I came across situation when some girl friends of mine expressed that they were so surprised or should I say shocked to know that I’m so into SNSD. As a fan girl myself, I do have a few close sone friends, three of them are boys.
Oh well, this article simply just made my day! (although it’s an old article) 😀
