So the time of the year has arrived,2010 Golden Disk Awards will be taking place tomorrow (9th Dec) at 7PM KST!
We had earlier on asked you guys to support the ladies by voting for them for the Popularity award.
End results of the votes?
1) Super Junior – Bonamana (43.14%)
2) Girls’ Generation – Oh! (15.29%)
3) SHINee – Lucifer (7.39 %)
4) C.N.Blue – I’m a loner (5.42 %)
5) 2PM – I’ll be back (5.16 %)And the list goes on…
As you can see,the top 3 are simply dominated by SME‘s artists and… our ladies are placed 2nd.
This year round,our ladies are nominated for the Disk Daesang with Oh!,and the Digital Daesung with both Oh! & Run Devil Run.
To clear up the confusion,here’s an explanation of the awards by silis7noy.
Disk Daesang : Only full albums are eligible.
Digital Daesang : This is essentially the “Song of the year” award.
Digital Bonsang : There will be 5 winners for this “2nd place” award.
Popularity Award : 2 winners will be chosen.
The winners will be determined by looking at digital/album sales appropriately plus evaluation by judges. Fan voting will also count, probably around 20%, but for the popularity award, the votes will count more. The voting has always been a fierce fanclubs war and this year be no different.
Just to refresh your minds,they had won both the Digital Daesang Award and Digital Bonsang Award last year with Gee & Tell Me Your Wish respectively.

Despite winning the Digital Daesang last year with Gee, it was Super Junior who stole the show by winning the Disk Daesung last year with Sorry, Sorry. The Digital Daesang is a grand prize but it is a relatively new category, and the Disk Daesang carries more weight as it is presented very last at the award show. Unfortunately for the ladies they’re up against the same Super Junior sunbaes with Bonamana this year. From what I heard that award is heavily based on physical album sales figures, and Oh! is one of the top selling albums of the year, along with Bonamana and Lucifer. If the girls were to win the Disk Daesung, they would be the first ever female group to win. I am very biased and I hope you are too, nothing against SuJu but in all honesty the girls deserve to win the Disk Daesung more this year. Good luck to the girls!
as stated in the article, disk daesang can only be won by full albums only. unfortunately, gee and genie are minialbums so there’s no chance that they’d win that last year. let’s hope later for the girls to dominate the awards! SNSD FIGHTING!!
I am well aware of the fact that they werent considered for the Disk Daesang in 2009. I stated that two posts below earlier today.
It’s already a day before the awards’ ceremony/show, there isn’t much that can be done to change the amount of votes already in, but hey, might as well try because it may be worth it.
I’m not knowledgeable on how these award show ceremonies’ respective categories and criterias for songs, album sales and digital sales work so…
RagingXL, would you be so kind as to tell me what you mean by ‘the Disk Daesung carries more weight as it presented very last at the award show’ and ‘heavily based on physical album sale figures’?
Also, what are the criterias’ that needs to be fulfilled in order for a song in order to win the ‘Digital Daesung’ award since it is a relatively new catergory?
I would appreciate your response on the matter.
I should’ve phrased my sentenced in a different way, I mean the Disk Daesung is considered to be the most prestigious award of the Gold Disk Awards. And I say this not because I want to take something away from the girls, it’s because the Disk Daesang has been the sole Grand Prize of the Golden Disk Awards since its inception over 20 some years ago, and the fact that it is presented last usually means it is the most prestigious, in similar fashion the Best Picture award is presented last at the Oscars, and the Album of the Year award presented last at the Grammys.
In 2009, SNSD wasn’t considered for the Disk Daesang because they had not released a full-length album in 2009, so they could only contend for the Digital Daesang which considers mini-albums (EPs) and singles if my information is correct. The Digital Daesang had only been presented since 2007 as it is a new category, it is definitely the most prestigious award for artists that didn’t release full-length albums. With singles and EPs becoming more and more prominent these days compare to full-length albums, the prestige of the Digital Daesang is certainly catching up to the Disk Daesang.
I could be wrong about how they award the grand prizes. When I orderd the Thsutleo photobook a couple months ago I was informed by their team of a project the K-Sones were working on to rally more people to buy the Oh! album because it was at the time the second best-selling album of 2010 (guess who’s first?) in order to have a better shot at the Disk Daesung. This information led me to believe the award is heavily based on album sales, but I could be very wrong as I don’t have exact information on how the award committee selects the winner.
Now I know that you can’t really guarantee the accuracy of how these awards are being rewarded to groups, but don’t worry, not all of us get it, especially me.
Nonetheless, thank you for your time, it definitely helped me to understand more about these award ceremonies and such and how they operate.
is this the award where some Chinese fans started to steal Korean SSN in order to vote for SuJu?
I don’t think so. The Golden Disk Award voting doesn’t require Korean ID, I voted a ton of times, but it was futile, SuJu started out with over 60% of the votes, not sure how this was possible but they managed to maintain the huge lead and still ended up with 43% despite the advances made by the other groups. You can’t help but wonder if there’s some kind of cheating involved as this kind of lopsided voting result is really impossible to explain. I’m not saying this because I’m biased, if SNSD ended up with a runaway 43% vs a distant 15%, I would question the validity of that result too.
then the Golden Disk Award is rigged before it even begin, lol!
