On the 25th, if you recall, Music Bank held the Half-Year K-Chart where there were a bunch of special stages and at the end, the girls were the ones to take home the trophy. However, what sparked most of our attention about the Half Year K-Chart was probably what happened during the idol-filled special stage (cover of Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You”).
Taeyeon was off-key toward the end and according to Soshified and a fan present that day,
A fan that was present at the scene explained, “On this day, Taeyeon, while doing a stage rehearsal, requested for help from staff because the sound in her in-ear (the earphone in her ear) wasn’t playing and she showed displeasure towards the staff after two frustrating recordings.
In addition, “Even though the staff were clearing the stage, Taeyeon, still frustrated, refused to leave the stage.”
Netizens argue, “I understand that Taeyeon is frustrated but I think it was careless of her to be saying those kinds of things on a live broadcast”, “She should’ve watched her mouth”, “A singer just talked about the stage environment, don’t you think these reactions are a little too sensitive?” and the arguments continued with “How frustrated must she have been to have gone that far”, “If the in-ear was indeed broken, Taeyeon’s remark shouldn’t become an issue”.

And at the end of the Half-Year K-Chart when the girls were giving their acceptance speeches after winning 1st place, Taeyeon made the remark,
“I hope Music Bank creates an environment for singers to do better” *
This remark eventually caused criticisms and talk to arise among netizens as some felt that what she said was brave, meaningful, and perhaps reasonable, while others may have felt that what she said was not necessary. Though everyone has the right to their own opinion, we would like to share fancams that show us more insight to the situation (thanks to wisekitty who shared this in the “Questions/Comments” section) and ask for people to be more understanding of Taeyeon and the situation as well.
This is a fancam of the rehearsal, where you can tell that Taeyeon literally killed it. Her singing was perfect and on-key so she could’ve done the same on the actual stage. (Also wanted to point out how maknae was laughing at her husband when his voice cracked; adorable! :])

Again as stated above, everyone has the right to their own opinion. What is my opinion based on what happened and seeing these fancams? I feel that her remark was appropriate and reasonable. Taeyeon is a perfectionist and rarely do people see her upset. Some people might say it was unprofessional and disappointing of her to say such a remark during the broadcast, but I disagree. In my opinion, she was making a meaningful request in hope that it will be beneficial for artists (not just her, SNSD, but also other artists) in the future. No artists, especially perfectionists like most artists are and who have trained years in singing, would want to make a mistake and go off-key in front their fans (considering that in this situation, part of the reason why she went off-key was because the ear-piece that the staff didn’t fix). Artists want to show their best/sing their best in front of their fans. Don’t you think you would be embarrassed, deeply disappointed, and upset if you made a mistake and part of it wasn’t your fault, but you KNOW you could have done it right. I mean…I would be :[ Put yourself in her shoes or look at the situation at a different angle. Plus, shouldn’t everyone have their right to speak their mind/freedom of speech?
I do hope that what has been said is over and if some people are disappointed in the leader. Please let bygones be bygones :[

exactly!! I completely agree with your opinion. Taeyeon should be able to speak her thoughts. I can totally understand how upset she was about the in-ear earphones. Especially after asking the PD twice to fix it.
Anyways, I really hope that this entire situation will clear up very soon. And I also hope that SNSD’s and Music Bank’s relationship will not be shattered. Music Bank always creates such awesome stages for SNSD that everybody loves watching….

Taeyeon is completely in the right. any musician, whether our girls on the big stage in Korea or just the guy a the coffee shop down the street, rely on monitors. those are those speakers on the stage. if those arent available, sometimes you’ll use the in-ear monitor, which is what Taeyeon was using. you need it in order to hear yourself and others. she was singing in a band with other people; you can’t hear yourself, much less others, in a such a situation. hence the earpiece. Taeyeon was being very professional by requesting the earpiece to be fixed; if Music Bank had done a good job in the first place, we wouldn’t even be talking about this. but they obviously didnt.
and we know she wouldn’t be one to give them sass or be frustrated. hence the unprofessionalism came solely from Music Bank. the fancam above where the PD signaled to cut her off shows this even more. they wanted to save face and make it her fault, when she is clearly singing for the program of the STATION and as such the STATION should take care of such technical matters while the musician just sings. and you can’t say KBS, which is partially owned by the Korean government, can’t handle a little problem in the audio system.
and we all know Taeyeon fairly well as her fans by now; she’s not one to easily show frustration, esp on TV. but she did. what does that indicate to us, not only as fans looking at an artist they love, but as people who all have faced frustration? these are the facts of the matter. frankly i’ve seen many people accuse her who don’t know much about audio systems or stage performances in the first place. i have some background so i’ve merely said what i know.
i completely agree with you. hooray for taeyeon for voicing out her opinion. she might be the only idol who’s willing to do so on live broadcast.
however, i think it was unprofessional for her to not do her best during Oh! performance. i thought she was sick or something (this was before i read the news) because she was seen unhappy.

All this hoopla seems ridiculous to me. So there were technical issues that could have been fixed and Taeyeon said some comments that rubbed some people the wrong way. But I don’t see it as an issue. Mistakes happen. People need to accept it and move on.
I believe Taeyeon had the right to speak her mind during the awarding especially since as the winner of the award, they could speak in behalf of all the artists who may have encountered difficulties in performing in music bank.
However, I just wished Taeyeon did not show her disappointment during the Oh! performance. I know its tough to hide what you feel but as artists who has been in the industry for a few years already, she should be able to show professionalism and not bring down the performance of the other girls. Added to the fact that she is also the leader and the sunbae of new artists now. I wish Taeyeon’s sunbae would be able to guide her so that incidents like this would be avoided. She could have showed more conviction with what she said during the awarding if she performed well throughout the whole show including the Oh performance. Then people would clearly see that it was the show’s fault that she got off key. She is a very talented girl so I really hope she learns from this experience so that she could stay longer in entertainment industry.
Kudos to Yoona, Seohyun, Jessica, Sunny, Yuri and Sooyoung for picking up the energy and trying to give a good perfomance during Oh!
I can’t understand her frustration, but I still believe that it was unprofessional of her to say that on air. I was a big fan of hers and although people say that they respect her more for her comment, it wasn’t the same for me. I’m gonna move on though. I’m still a fan, but with less respect for her now. Anyways, they should have sang a Korean song. When Korean singers sing English songs, they usually go off key anyways (even without technical problem) because of pronunciation difficulties. 🙂

I could totally understand Taeyeon, and I believe that she has the right to say what she wanted to during the speech. However, I am very disappointed in her performance during Oh!, and shocked me as well. I feel she should’ve controlled her emotions and did the Oh! performance a little better than what she did. It was very disappointing to watch her performed like that and while other members are showing the best out there. It kind of changed my view on Teayeon a little bit, how she will able to conquer this and be a little better in the future!

In my opinion Taeyeon was wrong to comment like she did. I understand her frustration but at the end of the day criticizing what essentially is her employer (to an extent) is quite unprofessional. If she was upset i think it was best to express her displeasure behind the scenes. Dont get me wrong, I am a fan of Taeyeon but you have to look at it from a business point of view. If most people make comments like this regarding work environment in the real world they are likely to get fired from their jobs…
I thought that was fine. The way I see it, Taeyeon barely does that kind of thing. She, and I bet other korean celebrities too, usually don’t do something like that because it’s probably just not the thing to do. But the point is, she brought it out in a polite and sincere way, which in my opinion, was very reasonable. I was quite surprised by her character mainly because I would assume that she would keep it in or contact the staff about the problem afterward so the only thing I can think of is that this must have really affected her in order to motivate the speech. It’s just a thought. And I was quite surprised and slightly disappointed with her Oh! performance too. I feel bad for saying it, but I think she could have handled that part differently. But we don’t know what exactly happened; the only thing we can do is assume, which can’t always be counted on.
KBS could have done a better job too because they’re a music station for singers, and it is their job to create a good environment for the singers; i mean, that’s how they keep the money flowing right? lol.. anyway as a musician I won’t be able fully understanding Taeyeon’s train of thought so that’s an other reason why i think Taeyeon handled her speech fairly well. She didn’t bash and wasn’t really selfish (she was just a little dead during the oh! performance) and her request speech was mature and professional. My opinion…i don’t think we can fully understand her in this situation if we’re not musicians ourselves. And even though she’s a celebrity, she also a young women doing her best and besting the frustration life gives you all at the same time so I give her props.
The comment she made on her speech was fine but how she acted or how she performed Oh! was upsetting. She didn’t have any energy and it seemed like she didn’t want to perform at all. The song was a really happy song and it was disappointing that she let her feelings affect that performance. And the worst part about it is that that was the song that won but then her performance was really bad.
I saw it. Seriously everyone have their own opinions but think about it again. People who give criticisms and talk to arise among netizens are just being too negative. It’s not only the SNSD this song that make it suck. I saw a few times that music bank or even other variety shows. They do not give the best shot for the singers who had problems with microphone, earpiece or so on. It’s not the first time already. So what does it show then? Not professional isn’t it? So why do they blame the singers for being frank of their working attitude?
Music bank is a variety show for all the singers to prove their singing quality and make it the best for the artists isn’t it? Why are they not fixing all the problems to give the best stage or performance for the audiences? Think about it. It’s basically their job error or fault. Why do they blame Taeyeon for being frank about the working attitudes they gave? Taeyeon asked properly but they chose to ignore and tried to cut away the truth. Is that what the music bank variety show are proving to the audiences then?
A perfect performance will need both to co-ordinate. It’s not only the singers’ part to do their best. It have to be both parties to make it perfect. When the singers tried their best and found the error, Music Bank just don’t solve it. This is trying to escape and not giving the best performance for the audiences. If that’s the case, Music bank doesn’t give any sincerity for all the singers, not giving the respect for everyone who tried their best in performing it. Then, just close it please. It’s not for people to look it then. Not even worth to see it.
Music Bank, Taeyeon commented that way- seriously, nobody as a singer will want to have a problematic performance. None of them want it. Even a normal human being go up to the stage, they wish for perfect performance or at least do not have any error or ugly side of them. Isn’t it? So do not blame TaeYeon especially she’s a singer. =]
Everyone do make mistake but if you can correct it and do it once more, i don’t feel it will be bad. At least is the best performance you can show to the audiences and enjoy it then everyone having the black face while working or singing it. So korean netizens stop complaining about singers commenting on such. Think about it again. If it’s you, what will you feel? You might even be more agitated compared to Taeyeon. So just let it be and stop commenting as if Taeyeon is the wrong one.
I think that might not be the end of story. If you check the super junior’s performance at the same stage, you can find out that HeeChul who is very close to the girls also looked like very upset. So i suppose that after the recording for the special stage there happened serious conflict between a girl(mostly Taeyeon) or girls and staffs, and it even got more serious so that even the other guy like Heechul in the other group had to be involved. And it had not been ended well, so these two guys were still upset on their stage and our Taeyeon even had decided to make some comment. (Of course I admit that this can be just conspiracy.)
It remembers me the accident with the little fireworks involving Taengoo and Yoong, and the other one where Onew has been injured at his leg… Even if the staff don’t want such accident/problem, it is fun that everything happens only on music bank… bad luck or unreliable staff? It is also possible that there are often problems and not just this time, who knows.
Taeyeon was defintly awesome on rehearsal tough i agree with what Taeyeon said, i don’t understand why she went off key becuse of that, i mean probably she didn’t have enough practicese time becuse if you know the song weell eneough you wouldn’t go off key like that.

You forgot to include the fact that she was putting on a pissed-off expression and acting like a lifeless child during the entire performance of Oh! I love Taeyeon but that, in my opinion, wasn’t very professional of her. It may have been the staff’s fault for the earpiece issue in the special stage performance, but she should not have brought her unhappiness forward to the next performance. Her fans deserve better than to see her sulk on stage the whole time. They would have definitely understood her going off-key, but more than anything, they want to see a cheerful Taeyeon on stage. Just my thoughts on the issue.
Oh, but you forgot to monitor Taeyeon closely. If you did, you could have easily realized that Taeyeon tried hard to suppress her emotions. You should watch the performance again and look at her face when Sica sang the “love it” part. If she really wanted to act pissed, would she have that face expression? She also waved hands and smiled at her fans toward the end, though not as energetic as the other girls. If you don’t call it professionalism, then what is? And she was on the verge of tears at the beginning, for crying out loud, not a pissed-off expression.
Please see for yourself how she performed, don’t just follow other people blaming her if you are a true fan.

dude, it was most likely that she just had an argument with the PD or whoever was responsible for that error, and was most certainly very VERY upset. She’s a performer, not an actress. You can see that she tried her best to perform. If she was unprofessional, she wouldnt even have bothered going on stage. Of course nobody in the right mind would be able to show a fake cheerful performance right after going through shit like that. Think about it……
i think taeyeon should not do that cos it makes some people don’t like snsd more. She can tell the producer about the problem that she got.

This was the case of grown-up’s dirty trick on Taeyeon. Trying to cut her speech off is the proof that PDs were informed of Taeyeon’s intention prior to her speech. There could have been argument between Taeyeon and the PD. Reasonable assumption based on Taeyon’s personality is that she was somehow stirred up to make a comment like that by the PD. Something stinks on the PD’s part.
Taengoo had every right to be pissed at the staff. If there was some technical problems, they should have listened to her the first time and fixed her earpiece.

Music Bank doesn’t like SNSD , thats what think, for one they blocked SNSD from music bank for 4 consecutive weeks during their Gee promotions after this incident isn’t it ohkay for me to think they have something against SNSD to even not care when taeyeon wanted a redo?

Yeah, I completely understand why Taeyeon would be upset. Its her job as a performer and she must feel the duty she must keep for her fans to give them the best she can with her performance. I would rather she speak up about it that not at all. If MuBank is providing artists a proper environment to perform in I would be upset as well. Those people who said she should have shut up about it aren’t seeing it from her point of view. “Oh its inappropriate to make a comment about it, she shouldn’t have said it, its rude to Mubank blahblahblah” she’s just standing up for herself and the other artists. And I think she said it in quite a polite way and its not like her tone was extremely rude.
Then others said that she was unprofessional for the Oh! performance and that she was throwing a hissy fit. Yes because being upset with the situation and at yourself is throwing a hissy fit. Its not like she didn’t dance at all or sing. She still did it albeit not as well as her usual self, but if your upset enough I’m sure you wouldn’t be able to dance and sing happily either. If I put myself in her shoes I would think I’d being feeling upset at both MuBank and myself for not perfoming well and slightly embarassed. Please tell me if you think it’d be so easy to perform and be all happy and smiley when your clearly not. I mean look at her face at the end of the Special stage. I don’t think she’d perform badly intentionally…the whole reason why she is upset is because she didn’t perform her best in the last stage. It’d be stupid if she did it ON PURPOSE in the Oh! performance.
I do however think she could have handled it better as mentioned in one of the comments above. LOL Maybe she isn’t quick enough to think of safe ways to handle the situation that is polite enough for everyone. If these kind of incidents didn’t occur as much as they do on MuBank, I might have understood the side saying she should have kept quiet a bit more.
