THE DUET IS OUT~

2011/02/01 11:15 am

UPDATE 01/02/11: “DIFFERENT” HAS ACHIEVED AN ALL-KILL! -mikechi

Meaning that it has nabbed the number one spot on all the major Korean online music portals.

Having only been released a day ago, “Different” rose to prominence at breakneck speed, and has topped the: melOn, Daum, Naver, Bugs!, Cyworld, Dosirak, Monkey3 and Soribada music charts for the 1st of February.

The combination of Taeyeon’s and Kim Bum Soo’s exceptional vocals have been a hit amongst fans and music lovers alike, and no doubt, has added to the immense success of the song. Congratulations to them both!

Taeyeon and Kim Bumsoo’s duet is finally out! Check it out 🙂

What’s everyone think of the duet? I’m loving the vocals, as usual (: So, Different or I Love You? (Just comparing these two since they are the latest releases by Taeng)

  2. I prefer ‘I Love You”. idk her solos are much better than duets, imo.
Just like how I enjoy listening to “If” and “Can You Hear Me” more than “Sarangingulyo”.
But this song has more of a latin feel to it, which is a good listen too!

By ruraldaze on 2011/01/30 at 11:57 pm

    1. I do not know how Latin songs sound like but it sounds like a Malay song to me 🙂

By tkcube on 2011/01/31 at 12:26 am

  7. Wait, isn’t Kim Bumsoo and Taeyeon the “Ingoo~” or “Ingyoo~(?)” pairing in that video where they’re vying for a fillial award and posted by YesungCenter?

By Terrez on 2011/01/31 at 12:55 am

  8. Agree, this one is good, but “I Love You” is much better~ Btw, anyone hear the song “Byul” sang by Taeyeon as well? Her voice is also so nice~ (Unlucky that there is no studio version)

Support you, Taeyeon! Fighting! Keep singing good songs for all SONEs 🙂

  9. I love this more than, ‘I Love You.’ It’s simply beautiful and can possibly on par with Timeless by Zhang & Junsu. What an amazing song. *heart flutters* Whoever is loves ballads should love this one. Taeyeon can do no wrong ❤

  14. oh my……i totally love this song….
i got goosebumps and shivers listening to it.
I Love You and Different are both love songs that emote slightly different feelings..imo
I Love You is more melancholic whereas Different has more anguish.
Still…BabyTae did a great job on both songs.
I luv that my “BabyTae” playlist keeps expanding. Lě sigh~~♥

  16. Whoa, Taeyeon’s and Kim Bumsoo’s smooth, dulcet and breathtaking vocals in conjunction with the melodious rhythm of the song definitely got me rooted in awe.
Actually, all ballads get me like that, and I’m not even into ballads as much as the next person.

There’s something about this one that has me liking it more than others…

By Terrez on 2011/01/31 at 2:57 am

  17. awww..her voice always amazes me.i love her soooo much..taeyeon’s the best!

  21. In general, I prefer to listen to the Girls singing (aside from the obvious reasons, having to decide whether to sing along to the dude part or the chick part or just do both is distracting), but I have to say this is about my favorite, if not the best duet involving any of the Girls (musically, anyway, even better than Caramel Coffee). The melody is straight out of, like, older Asian pop music (a style point, and not necessarily a plus – even if it is. atsui sayonara), and aside from that has a drama and melancholy that suckers me in. The touches of guitar add nicely to the tune without taking too much attention away. On the accompaniment in general, there are no overwhelming cues or distracting swells, which I seem to remember happening in some of Taeyeon’s recent solo work. The blending of voices at the end involves, as I see it, more interesting combinations and flourishes than I seem to remember from the other duets. In particular, that “leave me” part, brief as it is, is conspicuously good (even if I don’t like the lyrics that follow, “so I love you, you’re my soul” that much), and the following thirty seconds give us the best listen to what Mr. Kim can do.
As for the structure, I don’t know if it’s inevitable, but other than Caramel Coffee, it seems like all these duets go Voice 1/Verse 1, Voice 2/Verse 2, Harmony section. Simply because I’ve heard this structure in Soshi duets a lot lately (or so it seems on cursory review), hearing this structure (again) introduces just the slightest bit of something that is probably disappointment. But only a smidgen of the stuff – for starters, as many of these are written for OSTs, it may be the case that this structure suits that setting or something like that, some reason outside of songwriting that is given its own setting. Also ungood (1984? no?) is the fact that Taeyeon isn’t allowed the same vocal liberties as friendly Mr. Kim.
but again, I like this tune, and only bothered to give it a “review” because it impressed me as much as it did. And just to harp on that “leave me” part some more, I can’t recall many examples of what they do there – the conversational aspect, and the brevity that carries the emotional impact of what is being said so effectively, on top of the emoting on the parts of the singers (Taengoo sounds so sad!).

By Mongrolian on 2011/01/31 at 4:49 am

  22. As heartbreaking as Taeyeon’s “I love You” sounds to me, I think “Different” brings over double dose of sadness. That’s how melancholic it is~~

By lyraluvtae on 2011/01/31 at 4:58 am

  23. Thank you TAEYON SNSD for everything I like to listen to Korean songs specially YOU I like your VOICE keep going ‘paiting’
    GOD Bless you TAEYON.
    We Love YOU ‘sarang hea”

By KOREA lover on 2011/01/31 at 4:58 am

  24. I do think “I Love You” was better essentially because it really brought out the emotions. I think this song, not necessarily the 2 singing, just the song,…it doesn’t have that “climax” to totally pull you in. This song is more mellow and calming.

By kiddokiddie on 2011/01/31 at 5:28 am

  25. like a star is the best!

By dashley on 2011/01/31 at 10:45 am

  26. I LOVE IT 😀 😀 😀 !!!! To be honest, all the songs that Taeyeon has performed so far are “different” in a sense as they are meant to evoke differing responses from the listeners 😉 , so comparing one to another is not really “fair” in a way. I agree, this duet is “sadder” in a way, and yet, more “calming” to listen to :). I suppose I’m a BIG fan of Taeyeon’s vocal abilities and will LOVE any song that she lends her voice too 😀 !!! Saranghaeyo, Taeyeon <33333.

By Kenneth on 2011/01/31 at 1:23 pm

  27. This song literally gave me goosebumps!
& It’s sounds really emotional. I love the part where Taeyeon stretches the note.
I actually like Taeng’s duets more than her solos, I have no idea why, even though her solos might showcase her techniques in singing more. I just don’t like the bridge of this song.
    Nevertheless; it’s a beautiful song. ❤

By annabananaz on 2011/01/31 at 3:07 pm

  28. wow..taeyeon unnie’s voice is really soothing..the song is very touching..
