I agree, not that I hated the dance but I was really sick of looking at Koop groups wearing skimpy clothes and dancing suggestively I guess I wanted snsd to be different and wear long dresses so it doesn’t show their legs 😦

Agreed 100%, if they start going for the “skimpy clothes and dancing suggestively” image, then they lose the thing that sets them apart from the other kpop groups =/. I can see that their choreo is going for a western style, so I guess the costumes/choreo is trying to appeal to the US market?
i will support if snsd really want doing america market but at same time i don’t want snsd lose the identity as k-pop… don’t need copy other country…just do it they own style…if need change, do it little by little…but i like they as k-pop group…
Showing skin is for the appeal. But I agree. I very much prefer them cover up. They’re too good already to show skin, they don’t really need that to gather attention, their talents alone shines more than enough.
If anything showing skin will give people more reasons to talk bad about them. “These girls lack talents, so they capture people with their legs…especially “the boys”,” Yea, that kind of comment.
That, and showing legs doesn’t seperate them from the rest either. It’s too, normal?
Anyway, the song is OK from the 40 seconds I’ve listen so far. I still have faith in them.
I heard that rumor too. It said they would be dancing in short ballet dresses in some scenes, and burdensome Victorian dresses in others. The song was going to be an upbeat dance song, with influences from the sweet melodies European music boxes. It also said that the song would be about trying to break free from all the stereotypes and double-standards that are held against women. My hopes were so high!
I realized it wasn’t true when I saw the leaked version of this teaser last week. I’m still excited for their comeback, but the way that rumor was so detailed I thought it was true (especially since it came out the same day as Taeyeon’s teaser pic)
Yeah, that rumor made it seem so interesting. I was actually looking forward to that. The whole victorian, european music box, running down hallway with candles, etc. Dancing in dress using body and hand movement, it sounded really intriguing. Then they show the first teaser, them walking in the snow with long dressses and looking like ladies. Which matches the concept. And then with the leak teaser and on, the whole thing just went into a whole other route.
I was hoping for unique-ness. But I guess that’s not happening. The 30 sec sample pretty much confirm that. It will be a dance music video, and that should be that. Oh well…but they’re still angels.

You know, this isn’t the first time SONEs get a bit upset on what they was expecting on the MV.
“Mr. TAXI” MV is even more confusing. How could a song with the world “TAXI” on the title don’t even show any TAXI on the MV? Even there was no TAXI-related storyline in it.
The “Bad Girl” MV is another case. The costume and coreography is fit with the concept, but the final MV looks so raw and unpolished. The camera angle used was so boring, there was no variation. I guess they are in hurry since the girls were busy held their Japan concerts these days.
For this album, I can say there is no correlation between the concept in the teaser pics and what was released in the MV. I don’t know why SM keep doing this. The concept they are offering is not solid enough.
I’m tired of this kind of MVs. No outdoor scene. No storyline. SM should do something new, something refreshing to keep us fascinated.

They are pretty much debuting with this. Since it is afterall their first english cd in the US.
No, they’re not debuting in the US. This Album is more of a test on the English speaking market. They’ll probably decide whether or not to go through with a US debut depending on the results of this release. Besides, a slower transition into the US market will be more likely to work than if they just went for it.
SM is smart, they know that if they want to sell a product well, they have to create the desire for it first.

I love this concept. Sunny’s English pronounciation is quite good, actually. From the English teaser I can only understand what she’s singing. The choreo looks hawttt & I kinda like the audio. Yuri taking centre stage with that leg movement melts my heart away ❤ SooFany looks so glamourous and princess like. OMG I'm gonna die.

There are some people that are only complaining! Please, they are awesome so stop criticizing the girls so much.
Our jobs as sones is to support, no matter what.
Of course they’re showing a little more skin, they all are in their 20’s, they can’t be cute forever. It’s called growing up, for some that doesn’t know.
I think I have to correct you here …
Of course we are supporting the girls. But supporting doesn’t necessary means that we agree with everything about them no matter what and don’t show our own thoughts and opinions, including our criticism. That’s what a blind fan does. We give our thoughts because we care.
I don’t see any relation of being mature (in their 20s) and showing more skin. I’m just afraid that in order to appeal for U.S. market, our girls get sexier and sorry, wilder. I can’t imagine if our girls start to become some sort of sex symbol for U.S. fans, like may other artists there. They will lost the pure image they have built so far since their debut. The image that differs them from any other female performers and make most of us fall in love with them. I’d like to see them as lovely girls, not wild and sexy babes.
Growing up means that they should show us more of their talent, not their skin. I’m afraid people will start to look low on them if this trend keeps going.
Anyway, just my opinion. I’m sure some of us have the similar thoughts with me.
Similar thoughts with you? That would be me. I agree with what you said. We love them because they are loveable. They have worked so hard to get this far, if they stop being themselves now and change for some stupid western perspective who only love their woman slutty, then all that they’ve worked for would be meaningless. The old SNSD would be gone, losing to fame. If they lose themselves even deeper and forget their old fans, what would become of sone? Who love them dearly and support their every cd. All would be meaningless. SNSD deserve better, their fans deserve better. They don’t need to change.
Heck, showing skin was not my problem, we’ve all seen them do that with ‘Genie’. What I fear is them having to change to go far in the west. I wish them success, but I rather have them go far in the world by being themselves, no change. And if they don’t go far in the west, at least they fail for being themselves. Always go with dignity. That’s the SNSD we all grow and love, yes?
Just to make it clear before someone jump the gun on me, when I say they shouldn’t change for “some stupid western perspective” I am not referring to everyone, or the west in general, I am only targeting those who sits in the higher up, with one-sided perception on success, the ones who always want to put their view onto everyone to fit a specific image if they want to succeed.

I’m SUPER excited that SNSD is making a comeback in Korea, it means more music and MVs to spazz over! And it’ll honestly be interesting to see how they fair out in the American and European charts with their English version of the Boys. So far I really like the chorus part! Ehh I will admit though, Yoona doesn’t sound like Yoona at all in the 30sec audio teaser -_-… based on her 4minute solo performance she doesn’t sound like she has good English pronunciations at all. And this is one of the main reasons why I’m iffy about having SNSD tackle the American music industry, only because of their thick accents. If they can’t pronounce English well then they’re going to sound weird singing in English, or sound fake. I know Tiffany is awesome in English, and I think Jessica has good English pronunciations too (though I sense more accent in her’s compared to Tiffany’s), but other than those two I’m not sure about the rest. I’ve heard Taeyeon sing English songs and sound great, so I’m not to worried about her, and Yuri’s IF solo audio wasn’t bad either, so we’ll see. Finger’s crossed that SNSD does beyond WELL this year!!

First i’d like to say that…My girls’ are freakn’ HOT!…..but of course they are.
So after some thought, I think I’ll also chime in about this English pronunciantion topic. Or actually, not about that but something more relevant.
To me, it seems that English pronunciation, although it is an important matter for a foreign group releasing an US album, seems secondary to the actual issue. I myself can’t really hear what they are saying in most English POP songs anyways and lyrics in rap and hip-hop are also always “re-inventing” grammar and pronunciation of English.
So the actual issue is of that of an “ASIAN” artist on the American pop music scene. Because you know what…there haven’t been any. Any to have really mattered. Sure there are Asian-American members of a band (a couple in Linkin’ Park) but no solo artist nor a group where the majority is Asian, Asian-American or Asian mixed-race. The reasoning behind this (discrimination?, lack of signature “Asian” sound?, too small a minority to influence the market?) have been discussed in newspaper and magazine articles. Personally, I believe that this “lack of a signature “Asian” sound” argument is the least relevant when most white artists are doing African-American music (R&B, Blues, Soul, Hip-hop…etc..). Is there really a “white” twist to their music? I guess in some areas yes but mostly no. Even heavy metal, mostly considered “white” music, wouldn’t be where it is today without Jimmy Hendrix’s revolutionary innovations on the electric guitar and blues in general. Take that heavy metal skin heads! Yes, your music can also thank a genius African-American.
In the US, although African-Americans were the minority, they were the originators of music genres. And white Americans could be popular copying black music, just because they were the majority. And they were “Cool” for it.
The fact is that Asian-Americans in the US have not been able to creat a place for themselves in the music industry from the inside, although they have been prominent in classical music and are slowly gaining presence in movies, tv and sports. The subjective opininon is that they are not “Cool” and the objective evaluation is that they are not “marketable”, at least not in POP music. They can’t rely on the Asian-American population to sell records because it is just too small to be profitable. They need cross-ver appeal. Plenty of Asians have shown their singing prowess on American Idol, but non make it to the latter rounds and non are every signed.
So how does SNSD fit into this picture? Well, they are not artists trying to make it up the US system from the inside as Asian-Americans. They are a very successful foreign artist that come from the Asian music industry where they are already famous and celebrated. Let’s say like Ichiro for baseball.
The criticism of their pronunciation is only going to be a lower-level reflection of the bigger issue of what the American audience think of them as an artist and their music. If they think they are cool, their lack in accent-free English will be looked as something just to be expected. Of course there is a limit to how much can be forgiven but I think the girls did a fine job in the short clips I’ve heard.
We’ll have to see, but I believe that they should approach the US just like how they approached Japan. Which I think is what they’re doing. As a foreign POP girl band ROYALTY instead of a newby trying to enter a market bottom up. The latter method is just asking for an enormous uphill battle. Show them why the majority of the world already thinks that they are the epitome of Cool and that the US should catch up to the rest of the world with one of the greatest things to ever happen to POP music.
It looks like SM and Interscope is going to test the waters by releasing this single without any planned activities and aggresive marketing. We can only speculate what the reception will be but hopefully it will be positive.
I guess we’ll see in the coming months!
We’ve all heard the Girls at their solo concerts doing English language songs with admirable pronunciation, so I don’t think pronunciation for listener comprehension is a huge concern.
Pop singers here in the U.S. get grief for being artificial, for just being hired guns for songwriters and producers who put words in their mouth. But at least poor Britney can understand what she is singing! I don’t know how Americans would react to hear SNSD sing in English, but then some(?) most(?) members unable to understand and answer a question in English. “They are just mouthing words?!?” I could hear people say. And i think that is why the voices in the teaser feel a little flat to me. It has that metallic pronunciation that fails to convey emotion (but of course, this is not a ballad). And that is why Tiffany singing in English is really a treat, because she conveys emotions so well.
But it is only a teaser, so I remind myself. Lastly, to put you in a good mood, here is how far they have come: Here is all nine singing Santa Baby in English on Dec. 31, 2009. (You may notice a related video of Yoona singing “Like a Virgin” but that is best not watched.)
Imho, i think for them to have long term success in the US, they need to hire someone OTHER THAN Teddy Riley to produce their music. The key is being original and true to themselves as artists. e.g. Bruno Mars…
Not trying to beat down on Teddy, but i just can’t see his music really being so original in the US market now. Also, the only people who know themselves the best are SNSD themselves! xD
