**Awards to be announced at a later date, possibly Sunday the 3rd of July. Stay tuned!**
Having already wowed SONEs (and the world) with their red carpet appearance at the MTV Video Music Aid Japan event, the girls’ continue to mesmerize with a mind-blowing performance of “The Great Escape” and “Mr. Taxi”.
Our ladies are still up for three awards at the VMAJ, so stay tuned for further updates. For now, hit the jump for more red carpet photos!
PS. Got to love the fast work of SONEs!

Yay, there are so perfect 😀
my heart was soooo nervous seeing them live..tho its on tv!! they r soooo beautiful…
The video posted seems out of sync with sound.
This is a better one.
Put quality headphones on. Your piece of crap iphone earbuds or laptop speakers don’t do this justice.
So A.W.E.S.O.ME, I applauded the performance in my PJs, alone, in my bed, 5 in the morning.
Thanks for that, changed it, even though the video quality isn’t quite as good as the last one, there’s nothing worse than audio being out of sync with video.
Thanks for the post!
Now then…..Where is HD please???!!!!!!!
Well done SNSD XP U Girls look fantastic! and great performance!
I swear tae’s vocal just blew me away.. choreography’s obviously tiring but she pulled it off..freaking amazing performance from our 9 gorgeous angels!!!
Wow, absolutely fabulous performance!! If anybody finds an HD link please post. A fancam showing all the choreography would be nice instead of the camera jumping around, don’t think that’s gonna happen though…..
so did they win any awards? X)
SNSD HWAITING!!! \(^o^)/
awesome as always! ^_^
♥
I’m waiting for more videos!~
This was such a great performance!
Mr. Taxi was great just like I expected but Great Escape was surprisingly well done as well!
so those dresses should never see daylight again stage outfits are awesome
I had a bout of insomnia so I was able to see this performance live! I was so lucky. All our girls looked strong, well rested and happy. I’ve never been more proud to be a SONE!
i love The Great Escape. it’s probably the best song on the album, maybe better than Mr.Taxi, atleast for me it is. The choreography is better too. And i never realized how much time Seohyun gets vocally on that track, which is good since her voice is so strong.
I like that Japan is into MTV. It’s nice to see the girls perform on a large concert type setting with the larger crowd as opposed to always being on music shows (musicbank, inkigayo, etc). in korea if they perform for awards ceremonies, the crowd is kinda dead.lol
i stayed up to stream the red carpet and when they announced SNSD, fans went crazy…BUT, they didn’t show them :(. sones on twitter were upset, and found out that the reason why they didn’t show the girls is cause they’re endorsing Lipton and Coca-Cola is sponsoring the event. WTF? but anyways, AMAZING perf. by the girls…they acted like a boss on that stage.
They IMPROVE their live performance and it was DAEBAKKK !!! Ahhh…so proud of SNSD right now
i am a big fan but honestly i’m afraid it is lip sync
yes they all looked so healthy and happy and boy, the performance was so splendid, fabulous, full of energy and just amazing!
our girls are growing up. =’) its soooo awesome so great so proud of them so proud to be a sone yes.
SNSD JJANGGGGG.
FIGHTING!
this Great Escape perf is longer than the previous Music Japan, that’s why it feel more awesome with ‘chest popping’ towards the end.
the outfit + stage = dark, they should wear the yellow taxi 😉
on another note, I think both songs have many chances to do dance break, why cant they do one? woohoo!
I was up till 2am watching the live red carpet just because i wanted to see them and shinee LOL and the moment the announcer said their name all the fans went crazy and everyone was quickly taking out the cameras and everything =)
Hoooly HOTNESS! Their dancing was so SHARP! And the girls were super energetic and looked like they were having bucketloads of fun – if we ever get this in HD, it might prove to be one of my all-time favourite performances so far!
‘The Great Escape’, esp. the longer version, is sooo fierce (my absolute favourite on the new album), and with all the walking and moving around in that choreography it works SO well on huge award show-scenes like this.
Oh, also: Jessica might be the (melted) Ice Princess, and Yuri might be the queen of sexy, but NOBODY walks to the front of the stage while lifting her hands like Seohyun! That girl is the postergirl for ice cold sexiness. She’s like a Bond dominatrix when she turns it on – and I LIKE it!
i love snsd to death, but it was boring. they treated it like it was any other tv show….
they should have at least done GEE or GENIE, one of their hits, to get the audience involved, but they went for the grreat escape, in black outfits… I mean… its already hard enough to see them…
im disappointed, sorry.
Somebody call 911 Emergency because SNSD just Murdered the stage!!!
I just have to say, it feels like the girls have gone to the next level about dancing. The dance performances are so much better now!
Turns out that listening to video commentary and writing simultaneously isn’t conducive to efficiency.
No surprise that I took 4 hours to write this.
For a start, I would have to give the camera-men credit by not providing us fans with haphazard and sub-par quality footage of SNSD performing, especially since the program is streamed live in other countries and would garner a negative response. Another point of commendation would be them focusing their cameras at the appropriate moment of each song, therby allowing us to watch our beloved ladies do what they do best. Massive props to these unsung heroes.
I was also impressed by how certain aspects of the performance would complement each other to make for an amazing and entertaining watch. Other than seamless camera angles, the sound quality was superb. Wearing a good pair of headsets not only made you hear the ladies singing clearly without the audience drowning them out with their cheering, but it immerses you into the environment and made you feel like you were actually there to experience those exhilarating thrills. Surround sound FTW.
While donning those sleek outfits, SNSD appears to have transitioned from their adorable, sprightly and innocuous selves into cultivated, mature and solemn looking women as a result of this performance. A sign that they’re growing up and moving with the times, but I don’t think they’ll ever shed their cute image we’ve all come to know and cherish, but I digress.
The futuristic stage visuals and dim lighting remind me of the movie “TRON: Legacy”. It’s hard not to reference that movie when you compare the stage props and the outfits the ladies wore during both performances to the aesthetics of the film. They’re identical in the sense that they’re both set in dark, gloomy environments, but are offset by brilliant illumination, which looks absolutely stunning and magnificent. I was ecstatic upon watching the film for the first time because of how beautiful the fictional city looked like, and having the stage props replicate the setting and atmosphere which was present in the movie just adds to an awesome experience. For me, at least.
And of course, who could forget their singing and dancing. I don’t think their singing needs any sort of introduction because we’re all aware of SNSD’s singing prowess. However, if I had to describe their singing in the video in one word, it would be ‘stupendous’. It’s because I feel, in my opinion, that the members tasked with providing the main vocals during each song did everything to the best of their abilities to give their fans an amazing performance. It represents them at the peak of their abilities, and the emotions which they conveyed through their singing brings out the best in them.
I have nothing extraordinary to comment about the dancing, but I was baffled a little at some of the moves because I thought they looked like they were done for no apparent reason other than to appear pleasing to those who obsess over minute hand movements and robotic animations. Other than that, the dancing was well synchronized, organized and each movement embodies grace. Nothing special, but still noteworthy nonetheless.
In conclusion, I find that the theme of “TRON: Legacy” suits both performances rather well for reasons I’ve mentioned earlier. And it’s also partially due to the fact that SNSD is in a country with a reputation for being more technologically-advanced than some of its peers, so it pays to accustom and integrate oneself to the technological sub-culture. Heh, anyway, I can’t really find what’s so underwhelming about this musical event after scouring through some of the comments on the video, but I thoroughly enjoyed the astounding performance from SNSD. As always, they never cease to amaze their fans.
*garner a negative response from viewers of the program/people watching the event live.
*familiar with SNSD’s singing prowess.
I simply have too much time if I write a third response. I wonder why I didn’t contemplate in the spur of the moment before I clicked “Post Comment”.
Turns out that the stage visuals synchronize with each beat of the song, making for an impressive display of colour-differentiating lights to supplement SNSD’s dancing.
Blah Blah Blah.
Found myself a littel baffled at this comment. The synchronisation of their routine is the most remarkable part about their performance, which is all the more impressive for the intricacies which you’re so dismissive about. I don’t think many people appreciate how hard it is to get such a routine perfect, especially given their schedule.
Lordy! They sure look haht! No? Stellar performance and no mistake
that was an awesome performance! our angels are looking good!
snsd just killed that staged….they a really good job!!!!!!
question though: did snsd win any awards???? videos????
snsd just killed the stage with their sexiness……….our 9 angels are growing up!!!!
anywaz does anyone know if snsd won any awards????? videos????
What needs to be said has already been said. One word: AWESOME describes the performances best.
SNSD DAEBAK !!!
AHHH!!! PERFECT! TE AMO HYOYEON! SONE fever in Japan! \o/
Wow, if you liked that head over to Soshified and download the 1080i file. Pure heaven!!
codemon put up HD youtube vids, grab them before he takes them down!
Links for download of the codemon files are in the description of the youtube videos if you hadn’t noticed……
They totalled nailed it… the chereography of both peformances looks alot harder with the various hand movements as compared to their other hits… outfit wise; they’re definately moving on from their cutesy image. 🙂
^hd
i waited so long to see them but soshified is having “traffic jam”…
it lags for the whole performance for SNSD….basicly i can not watch the show….
but glad that you put it up…i know you will….XD
SNSD, fighting!^^
Like I said previously, there is a 700mb 108i download available on Soshified. If you are unable to download due to not having enough posts, pay the donation fee, it’s well worth it. I just got done watching it on my 42″ LCD and it’s amazing. The stage, lasers, lights, outfits, choreography and energy are all right on. They really nailed this performance!

loveeee the performances esp the great escape<3
& the girls were look mad fly on the red carpet
@LadyIgraine That’s ridiculous! I’d understand if the girls’ were endorsing Pepsi, but being cut off because they endorse Lipton is totally WTF! Coca-Cola doesn’t even make tea based beverages, or am I mistaken… Lunacy either way!
@mikechi, actually Lipton is an associated company of Pepsi’s and they produce and distribute Lipton bottled drinks in many parts of the world. So, not that I agree with Coke’s decision but there’s your answer. Coke basically played the corporate hater card and SNSD (and Sone) was the victim unfortunately.
Ah I see. That makes more sense now. Damn corporations and their hate games.
thank you for sharing
Updated the video. Thanks for the HD links everyone 🙂
Did they lip-sync??
This is how their future concert DVDs/Blurays should be like. Three [sic] thumbs up!
The pink outfits are not Really my favorite
HYOYEON!! SHE’S THE STAR!! HER OUTFIT AND HAIRSTYLE WAS SO GERGEOUS!!
I’m so glad they did a full version of The Great Escape! Just expected Jessica’s solo would be more glam. But better than nothing!
All I can say is: Oh. Em. Gee.
Think about it. Imagine you are one of those people who hang out in clubs. Suddenly SNSD appears and takes to the dance floor doing this. If alcohol doesn’t kill you in the long term, SNSD will do it immediately.
