+ Added some translations of the interview
Earlier, the girls were present on ‘Music Station’. As reported, they performed a special medly of ‘THE GREAT ESCAPE’ and ‘Mr. Taxi’. It was the first time the girls performed the former live on broadcast.
Interview cuts–
(Thanks to noffo for the HD alternative)
^ best part aside from the performances imo because of Fany’s ‘Everything pink, mine’
Translations of the interview–
trans: MC: what kind of otaku is snsd? Taeyeon: Tiffany is a pink otaku. Fany: Since I like pink, my belongings and room are almost all pink
MC: What do other members think? Yuri: Actually we also love pink, but since Fany really loves pink, recently we gave up.
Mc: how about the others? SY: Since we are staying in Japan for a long time this time all of us brought big suitcases…
SY: other members packed it with clothes and pj’s but Taeyeon has only cosmetics in that big suitcase
MC: What did you put it? Taeyeon: 20 different types of lipstick (?), 10 makeup brushes and 5 makeup pouches
SY: she is like a professional makeup artist. MC: how about other members? Yoona: seohyun chan is a fruit, watermelon otaku
SH: I really love watermelons. I think that when there are watermelons in summer even without food I can survive.
MC: do you eat one whole watermelon then? SH: ah, no

Performances–
(HD mirrored alternative)
Fun facts: YUI was present on ‘Music Station’ as well; Taeyeon’s musical debut in “Midnight Sun” was based off the Japanese movie “Taiyō no Uta”, starring Japanese singer Yui. Taeyeon also sang covers of Yui’s songs “Goodbye Days,” “It’s Happy Line,” and “Skyline.

I find that “The Great Escape” is (a well-deserved) tribute to ‘old’ JPN openings for futuristic anime.
Can’t remember a whole lot as of now, but it sounds strikingly similar to one song by KOTOKO.

The great escape’s cherography is really cool!

Tiffany’s eye-smiles when she says: “Everything.Pink.Mine” gets me everytime I hear it; it is so adorable 😉 !!!
As for Taeyeon’s answers, major adorkability overload (if there is even such a term to describe her ,oh so cute, reactions :D) !
What do I think of the Great Escape performance ? I LIKE IT ! ALOT !!!Thanks for the post and updates, ferrerorocher9 .

dare i say it but i hate the choreography for great escape. its slutty i dont like seeing the girls dancing like that! esp seobaby!! 😦
By blewberry on 2011/06/03 at 10:08 pm
Err…how is it slutty? People have got to stop looking at every single small detail and decide it implies something. The only thing I don’t like about the Great Escape is that it has too many English words.

these Japanese shows play the music so loud lol, you cant hear their voices, only the recording 😦
i loved The Great Escape performance. since the song is alot different from their usual sound, the choreography was totally different from their normal dancing. they were really spaced out, moved around the stage alot. more walking and arm movements than expected. but i love that song soo much 😀
and damn, Sooyoung is rockin’ that long hair.lol i feel like she’s super confident in Japan.lol
Jessica, Yuri, Yoona and Sooyoung look Legit.

i never realized how good they were at dancing.
i mean that, yeah i knew they could dance but for some reason they look really good here.
the choreo for great escape looked like something from a competition !

as for mr. taxi, the girls looked like they were giving their all in this performance.
i dunno why i love it so much !
SNSD♥FTW
By kesosauce on 2011/06/03 at 11:23 pm
despite their The Great Escape performance isnt too great (some parts were unsynch) but the choreo itself is awesome; that should make for it. moreover we all knew they must be really exhausted
love this perf! more we want more!

taeyeon is revealing too much??????

By hhhsnsd on 2011/06/04 at 12:52 am
@hhhsnsd
I love Taeyeon because she can pull off any look: Cute, sexy, sophisticated….. I love her sophisticated look.
I’d hate to judge her Lady Marmalade outfit based on that one picture. That outfit doesn’t look sexy. Maybe because Taeyeon with her anime-like stare is so petite and all, but she looks like a child who went into her mother’s lingerie drawer to play dress up. (I didn’t get that feeling with Tiffany’s still pics of Lady Marmalade). I’m sure if more fancams pop up of Lady Marmalade we can see what the full performance looks like and put both outfits more into context with the song.
I heard the last snsdkorean podcast and there was something about how both men and women at Korea’s Caribbean Bay Water Park have to wear a t-shirt over their bathing suits while in the water? I’m not sure if I heard that right, that’s how bizarre it seemed to me. Why? Because of prudishness? So would an outfit like what Taeyeon wore be accepted at a Korean concert? (We all know that Japan has different standards, with some of their “stars” doing, ahem, provocative photo shoots, etc.)

Oricon Album Daily Chart 2011.6.02: #1 Girls’ Generation 23,542 units sold.
It’s losing a little momentum, it’s a pretty significant drop off from the 2nd day, but this brings the total to 145,553, well on its way to winning the weekly chart. Hope these performances on TV and their tour will continue to boost the album sales.
By RagingXL on 2011/06/04 at 12:54 am
well, the weekly comes out on tuesdays and they have a tour on the 4th (i think?)…plus, their Hey3x episode hasn’t aired yet. btw: akb48 member miho miyazaki (who bought snsd’s album…well, majority of akb members are fans of snsd) watched this episode and said that yuri, tiffany, seohyun, and sooyoung were all cute :)!
By PeachBlossum on 2011/06/04 at 1:22 am
3rd day sales are usually like that though, but expect it to rise again after their MS appearance, June 4 & 5 concerts, and Hey3x is monday. plus, japan is STILL currently under recession right now, so majority of sales are a LOT lower than usual 🙂
By LadyIgraine on 2011/06/04 at 2:17 am
Looks like your dream of 200k by the end of the first week is no longer a dream, it looks like a very high possibility now. They only have to sell 55k more in the remaining four days to get there. It would be awesome to be certified Platinum(250k) by the 2nd week.
By RagingXL on 2011/06/04 at 2:36 am
I HOPE SO :)!!! The girls deserve this achievement, for all the crap they’ve been getting about their japanese promotions. And if you look at the charts, they still have a wide margin against their competitors this week considering UVERWORLD and J Soul Brothers (EXILE’s subunit) are their competitions. But for sure they already got weekly, hope they can surpass 200k+ soon :).
By LadyIgraine on 2011/06/04 at 3:23 am
Oricon update:
Oricon Album Daily Chart 2011.6.03: #1 Girls’ Generation 20,672 units sold, total 166,225.
By RagingXL on 2011/06/04 at 7:40 pm
just as expected, the sales didn’t drop too low and its still consistently selling very well :). even if they sell 15k+ for the next 3 days, they already got platinum because they will add up the international sales in the end of the first week and that could be around 20k – 30k+ at least. amazing first week for the girls, and maybe in less than a month the album will be certified double platinum already, since physical sale certifications doesn’t necessarily mean the single/album need to get an exact amount in order to be certified. gotta hand it to SM, they strategically plan both the album and the concert together so it can rapidly be under their favour in the fastest amount of time, and this is the field SM excels in…great marketing! the album will definitely be included in the yearly sales, which will be SNSD’s second appearance on the oricon yearly, and first for an album release.

where is Hyoyeon in “the great escape” performance???
By hhhsnsd on 2011/06/04 at 1:07 am
Hyoyeon looks so sad nowadays, cheer up girl. Also that no one even comments about her anymore is sad.
By poo on 2011/06/04 at 1:14 am
lets continue to just show her love by commenting. i remember when i was watching girls go to school and she made a comment about being edited out and because of that she thought she wasnt good enough. so imagine how she feels if she watches a performance but still she can usually put on a smile so as fans we should still bare w/ it like she does.
By hyobaby on 2011/06/05 at 10:32 am
Why do I get the feeling that “The Great Escape”, despite being an amazing song and having fluid dance moves, will only be performed live once by SNSD and that’s it?
I mean, anybody remember “Best Friend” back in October ’10? Other than the practice video which showcased the ladies’ playfulness, this was the only video I could find that wasn’t audio only:
Perhaps it’s a little bit too earlier to judge how everything will eventually pan out in the long run.
By Terrez on 2011/06/04 at 1:18 am
As far as I’m concerned we should feel lucky just to get even one televised performance of “The Great Escape”. Appearances on Japanese television are few and far in between, and the artists don’t get as much leeway as to performing many different songs multiple times. I am, however, disappointed that they decided to perform Mr.Taxi again as part of the special medley. It would’ve been awesome if they went with another song from their album, I was personally hoping for “Let It Rain”, but it didn’t happen.
By RagingXL on 2011/06/04 at 1:43 am
Considering how you’re armed to the teeth with facts and all, I guess I can sort of rely on you for information regarding SNSD’s performances.
By the way, I wanted to refresh my memory, what happened to the JPN “Oh!” that had a tentative release date of around April to mid 2011? Was it merely a rumour? Or was it something else altogether since I’m too lazy to scour my way through thousands of posts just to look for one piece of information.
Thanks.
By Terrez on 2011/06/04 at 1:52 am
It was just a rumor, supposedly for release around February 2011. But they surprised some people (including me) by remaking Run Devil Run instead as a digital single in January. However I don’t believe the chances of an Oh! remake is totally dead, they could very well still do it as a single later on and/or save it for the next full album.
By RagingXL on 2011/06/04 at 2:04 am
Much to your chagrin or not?
By Terrez on 2011/06/04 at 2:16 am
Not really. I’m not the biggest fan of Oh!, I like it but it’s one of my top favorites. However I do think the cheerful sound of Oh! does fit well with Japanese tastes, cheerleader concept still rocks.
By RagingXL on 2011/06/04 at 2:33 am
Well, I’m glad to hear that. Thanks for your time.
=D
By Terrez on 2011/06/04 at 2:40 am
the thing was during last week’s preview when they showed SNSD, “Great Escape” was playing on the background so that was an indication that they will be performing a fast song in conjunction w/ the special medley. and since “Mr. Taxi” is still considered their “current single” it was inevitable that they’d promote that too. everyone wanted to hear “let it rain” but considering their outfits, i think it would really look HELLA awkward singing a ballad in gold tights and knee high boots, lol!
By LadyIgraine on 2011/06/04 at 2:12 am
You’re right it would be awkward. But those gold outfits look like they came straight out of Hoot promotions, I think a combination of The Great Escape with the Hoot Japanese would’ve been a better choice since Japan has already seen Mr.Taxi, and will see Mr.Taxi again on Hey*3 not to mention another Music Japan appearance as well.
By RagingXL on 2011/06/04 at 2:31 am
Taeyeon loves make-up product very much now~~~
even if you don’t put any you are still beautiful 😀
she also improve alot in her japanese too XD
Taeyeon JJANG!!!
By x3TaeTae on 2011/06/04 at 1:22 am
awesome choreography as always…and i love the transition from “great escape” to “mr. taxi,” MS staffs were actually pictured painstakingly setting the stage so perfectly the night before in preparations for SNSD’s performance :). MS really takes care of the girls, and both MCs (takeuchi yoshie & comedian tamori) seems to be very fond of them, especially yoshie!
btw: i don’t know if you guys remember or know this, but arisa mizuki (the lady in a green dress) is the actress who played “Sazae-san” in where SNSD made a cameo for their show’s New Year special.
By LadyIgraine on 2011/06/04 at 1:38 am
i liked the great escape but i was really disapointed to see that hyoyeon didnt even get single word to sing…. even in mr taxi she only sang the same 3 words… *sigh* hyoyeon hwaiting!!!!
By hyo4eva! on 2011/06/04 at 5:03 am
After 2nd listen, I thought THE GREAT ESCAPE sounded mainstream. Wonder if this is the direction they’re heading to. Interesting to see how things develop from their first album.
But it’s still one of my favourite dance routines, reminds me that of Show! Show! Show!
By ruraldaze on 2011/06/04 at 6:05 am

By Cloe on 2011/06/04 at 6:37 am
I heard some unfortunate news that Soo Young is very sick. She was performing on MUSIC STATION with a high fever. Plus the girls have two more concerts coming up. I am worried. My heart just sinks from hearing this.
By soshisujushinee on 2011/06/04 at 8:11 am
Yea, Sooyoung has a 38 degree (Celsius) fever… all of them look dead tired, Taeyeon’s eye bags have such deep grooves like I’ve never seen before. Hope they just let them sleep for a day and not do anything until the concert starts. We need to cheer them up because that’s all the support they can get now with such tight schedules and no room for rests.
By RagingXL on 2011/06/04 at 8:32 am
oh no!! hopefully she gets better really soon before the next series of concerts and performances start again. hmmm…possible prescription: lots of rest, fluids, and FOOD!! our shikshin needs her supply of ammunition aka lots of food!
anyways, yeah, i hope the girls get at least a day off in between their schedules but i highly doubt they’re really getting the rest they need since we know they’re so hardworking and spend hours practicing so that they’re giving us their best. so yeah, we definitely need to cheer them up somehow.
By SNSD are my 9 genies on 2011/06/04 at 8:49 am
Yeah, I do believe the angelic 9 are being pushed to the limit here during this current Japanese tour :(.
Well, let us hope their minders realise that and try to cut them some slack, so to speak; although being the professionals that they are, I really don’t think that they want to disappoint their fans while they’re there ;).
Chin Up, Girls !!!
By Kenneth on 2011/06/04 at 8:51 am
I’ve never been on a long plane trip. Like really long. Like Seoul-to-Paris long. Is a trip like that really tiring? Like you need a day after you land to recover?
At least they’ll be in Paris next weekend with their label-mates whom they know and can have fun with onstage and off. SMTown is work, but they’ll be sharing the load with others and probably sing only their tried-and-true hits. I’m not saying they’ll be on auto-pilot when on stage at SMTown, but it’s certainly not the stresses of these solo concerts with new routines, etc.
Anyway, the best part of a trip is the looking-forward-to-it part. I hope the girls have Paris (and that Parisian food!) marked on their calendar to help them get through these long, grueling days.
By JustaTip on 2011/06/04 at 9:14 am
@ JustaTip
You only need a day to recover if you’re travelling between different time zones. So, my advice is to try to sleep on the flight (if you can ‘cos I know that you’ll be too excited to finally see the ladies live ;)). Anyway, I think the adrenaline rush will probably keep you awake for the concert performance 😀 !
By Kenneth on 2011/06/04 at 9:35 am
@ Kenneth
LOL, I think something got lost in translation there. I didn’t mean that *I* was planning to travel to Paris. I was just thinking about the girls and their busy schedules and if they were looking forward to the long flight to Paris and the accompanying jetlag. Yeah, I could have worded that better in my original comment.
As far as traveling to see the girls, I wouldn’t go out of my way to see an SMTown,,, not enough SNSD. If they came to the East Coast of the U.S., then sure, because SME knows how to put on visual extravaganza. I think RagingXL had the better idea to just go to a SNSD solo concert for the ultimate experience, but those are likely to be in Asia only. Now if they can do a concert in a SE Asian country with a nice climate (and a weak currency), then that would be something to go to.
By JustaTip on 2011/06/04 at 11:26 am
For people that are constantly sleep deprived like SNSD, jet lag doesn’t really affect them as much as people who have very regular sleep schedules which SNSD never has (our ice princess Jessica can sleep at any spot at any time anyway). To them, the long flight is a blessing in disguise because they can actually sleep and there’s no way they can use that time to do anything like rehearsing or getting their hair or make-up done.

SNSD’s japanese album really shocked me. I can tell that they’ve worked SOOO hard for this. They’ve changed. They’re more mature now, and their music is just beyond awesome. Their solo performances at Osaka..can I just say that i was spazzing whilst Sooyoung sung “Sway”. All their vocals have improved + the audio mixer dude really rocks. I didn’t really like “The Great Escape” until I watched this music station performance. The beginning was epic. I actually like this choreo more than Mr. Taxi! Seohyun looks soooo pretty (and everyone else too). Sooyoung & Fany are so sexy. Sica looks a bit japanese here with her hairstyle hehe. I can tell that they’re all tired, but they still delivered such a beautiful performance. ❤ SNSD forever.
By annabananaz on 2011/06/04 at 1:41 pm
was definitely waiting for the great escape to be performed live like this because i couldn’t see the dance from the fantaken videos and this is one of the few tracks they can dance to off their album aside from their translated korean singles

The performance was somewhat alright but a lil messy im not gonna lie but they were tired so i dont blame them. they worked hard.
By hyobaby on 2011/06/05 at 10:36 am
Sica make up’s really Jpanese girl. and Sooyoung so mature and attractive, Seohyun more brave with the dance, in the great escape I feel the main vocal was only Seohyun,Taeyeon,Fany, and Sunny, and the others just like back dancers. 😦
Overall..I don’t know why but I DON’T LIKE THESE JAPAN DEBUT!
