Alliterations for no reason are cool.

It’s been a little over a month since the girls debuted in Japan with a remake of ‘Tell Me Your Wish’, and they have been very well received in the foreign market. The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) recently certified the girls’ first Japanese single with gold status, meaning that more than 99,999 (+1) copies have been shipped. For those curious, platinum certification is marked at 250,000 copies.

From my understanding, RIAJ’s numbers focus on the production side of view, so it counts the units shipped (to stores, etc.) rather than the units actually sold to consumers. This means that the numbers will differ from Oricon, which counts the copies sold. Regardless, Genie is sitting pretty close to the 100,000 mark in ‘real’ sales as well, and it’s only a matter of time before they hit that number. (That’s if they haven’t already, my numbers may be a bit out of date).

With Gee entering ORICON daily at #2 upon its release yesterday and 150,000 already pre-ordered by retailers, I’m just curious how long it’ll take to hit platinum status! Soshi hwaitaeng~
