If you didn’t know yet, today is SHOWCASE DAY. So to celebrate their Japan debut, here’s a short clip (about half the song) of Japanese Genie that was released recently. For all of us not in Japan we can listen to this and imagine we are 😀 It’s a bit…different, hearing it in Japanese instead of Korean, but whatevers we’ll get used to it 🙂 Not sure yet if the original was directly translated to Japanese because there are some parts not in theKorean version. So far I’m loving Taengoo’s “SOS” and Sica’s “Genie yo” haha. If anyone knows Japanese, please enlighten us

Lol… Zucchini Malhaebwa. Sounds just like that lol… Tell me your ZUCCHINI!!! hahaha
By Lazarus on 2010/08/25 at 2:07 pm
It sounds much like native Jpo, unlike kara’s mister, which sounds very much simlilar to korean instead of japanese
By deeryoongchooding on 2010/08/25 at 2:51 pm
Really? Recommend me some Jpo(p?) music, because I don’t think I’ve heard any like this before.
By Deft-Monkey on 2010/08/25 at 4:24 pm
BOA sang a lot of songs in Japanese before like Dakishimeru. Can try that one 😀 also Koda kumi, namie, utada and Ayumi are their biggest pop stars currently. Youtube them 😀 they’re good
By Dísa on 2010/08/25 at 6:38 pm
Ooh, thanks! I was actually listening to some Utada when I read your reply, heh. Namie is also awesome and I’ll have to check out the other two, although Ayumi sounds familiar. Are there any Jpop groups that have a similar sound though? I find that the solo artists sound quite different from the groups in their style.
By Deft-Monkey on 2010/08/25 at 6:46 pm
i’d say Kara’s Mister is a bit more similar Jpop than ‘Genie’ ….
they’re also hitting the harder sounds like the “t”, “s” “k”, etc. sounds with a lot of emphasis and more sharply…it’s as if an english person would read romanji …whereas a japanese person wouldn’t emphasize it….i think that’s making the lyrics choppy to me cuz it’s not flowing as well as it could
By gotchi on 2010/08/25 at 5:36 pm
I freaking love it. It doesn’t sound weird.
This is low quality version right because the sound is not that clear?
I was hoping for them to redistribute the singing part because some members barely got line.
but then I thought, if they changed in, that means their choreo will change & that makes it harder for them to practice in short time. so yeah, i’ll just accept this -__-“

oh and Sunny’s part sounds killer at the end!<3

Chinese subs for those who understand….=D
By Heron on 2010/08/25 at 3:49 pm
I can’t help but like this more than the original, actually. Some things are funny like that. I guess it sounds a lot sharper to me without the Korean phonetics.
By Deft-Monkey on 2010/08/25 at 4:25 pm
I know right? I’m totally loving this more than the original one. Something about the pronunciation makes it so sexy. Maybe it’s cuz Korean language is more crude then Japanese. Nice flow with the song though, and those spoken syllables just makes it all the better.
By ruraldaze on 2010/08/25 at 10:09 pm
genie yo~~
By drunko on 2010/08/25 at 4:41 pm
amazingg..
By zoidn on 2010/08/25 at 5:19 pm
i can’t tell if it’s the translation from korean to japanese of the song or the girl’s pronunciation of the Japanese words that’s making the song awkward for me
the part where everyone hears “zucchini” it’s “suki-nii” in Japanese which is ” i like you”
like there are a few words/parts in the beginning that’s emphasized awkwardly; it’s more obvious in the verses than the chorus
it’s still fun to hear the song in another language though!…not gonna compare/bash or anything but just my opinion i think Kara’s Mister Japanese version was adapted a bit better…
By gotchi on 2010/08/25 at 5:22 pm
omg… want the full version…. now!!! cant wait till its out
By MintChoc on 2010/08/25 at 6:33 pm

By notanoppa on 2010/08/25 at 6:42 pm

By yoomin309 on 2010/08/25 at 6:57 pm

By pp on 2010/08/25 at 7:50 pm
going by the translations of the song posted on Soshified (and my intermediate level of japanese) there are differences between the korean and japanese versions. i can’t give a definite translation without seeing the kanji since i completely rely on them specially when it comes to words with double meanings =/
By skyeliner on 2010/08/25 at 8:52 pm
nice SOS !

By Jessica on 2010/08/25 at 11:08 pm
Between my quarter understanding of Japanese and half of Chinese (via Heron’s link above), I was totally going to weigh in on a “translation,” but then it wouldn’t really be that useful, so I’ll just wait for a full translation to come out. But seriously, it’s so nice to hear this vs the Korean, of which I understand only a handful of words – I think they’ve pulled it off.
As to the question of accent, yeah, maybe, but a person from Tokyo will say people in Hokkaido have an accent just like I in Los Angeles can get annoyed by the way people as close as San Francisco talk. They do all right – so far, I think Jessica does it best. I really like to listen to this, though. I was supposed to be in Japan by now, but this helps strengthen my resolve.
But I couldn’t help myself: the “zucchini” part, they string together the four phrases, to mean something like “I’m here / If you come with me / It’ll turn into love / Or even more”.
But seriously. Yay for Girls Generation.
