boa, DBSK, genie, girls generation, shinee, snsd, so nyuh shi dae, tell me your wish
Edit: I realized there were some things I left out.
Ah, the K-pop world just never ends to surprise me. Seriously. I love its predictable and redundant routines. It keeps me sane. Who likes change anyway? Hmm, maybe I’ve just been watching too much HOUSE.
Anyway, speaking of consistency, also another word for ‘similarity’, check this out!
Heh, surprising isn’t it? I don’t even know what to say. I actually laughed. I think after being being so jaw-dropping shocked the other times that this has happened, I’m so used to it. It’s not the first time SM Entertainment, or K-pop for that matter, has done this. In fact, Asia likes to borrow a lot of songs, it’s not just Korea alone…
BUT, the only difference is, SM Entertainment is smarter. They at least pay for these things. *Ahem Ahem, MNet Entertainment.* So don’t be too mad at the girls (because heavens, you shouldn’t even be mad at them. It’s not like they wrote and composed Tell Me Your Wish, Genie) and don’t get mad at the producers or SM Entertainment. This is normal… I mean, sharing is caring, right?
Since SM Entertainment has done this plenty times before, they know what they’re doing. They’re not going to get sued so there’s nothing to worry about. In fact, they’re too pro in business and at what they do to not even think of any precautions. If you haven’t noticed, SM is pretty much the ‘play it safe’ company… Besides treating their entertainers like slaves, they pretty much keep them locked up so nothing bad ever happens. SM Entertainment probably bought the copyrights to this song, so it’s most likely all good. The only reason why this is gonna be a big deal is because netizens and anti-fans alike will be complaining on the lack of originality either about the ‘composer’ or about SNSD.
Do you guys remember before Gee how they were supposed to debut at the end of 2008 but it got canceled so they had to haul ass and make another concept and song up (thus giving us Gee)? I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the same song they were trying to get copyrights to… Even if it’s not, that whole scenario is just evidence that SM does indeed buy their songs if it’s not composed by one of their own. Because if they just stole things, they never would have worried about postponing SNSD’s comeback in late 2008 and having to start from square one.
Just in case you didn’t know, I’ll be listing just a few songs that K-Pop has borrowed:
BoA – Spark
BoA – I’m Sorry
Lee Hyori – Get Ya
Lee Hyori – Straight Up (?)
DBSK – Mirotic
SHINee – Juliette
Credits: Crazy51 for the tip
geez! when will SM learn?! -___-
i hope this wont hurt SNSD =[
Haha it’s kinda funny to hear the original song.. ^^\
it has more mid-eastern vibe that will fits the “genie” theme more! lol
Wheesung – Insomnia
Wheesung was requested by Craig David to do the korean version of his song.
that is true, but i’d like to argue that craig david ‘insisted’ on ‘lending’ wheesung the song, so he did, in a sense, ‘borrow’ it. 😀
Gosh, I laughed too.
Personally I think the girls did a good job of covering the song, and it’s fine to me that it’s just a cover. It’s just bad (imo) that SM made it SNSD’s comeback hit. Dunno, I just feel that when the song plays such an important role, it shouldn’t be a cover.
Anw, I like both versions, that’s what important to me 😀
user TrulyUnforgettable on YouTube commented:
“SM says SNSD Genie is the only original. The demo tape was leaked and plagiarized by the other singer.” credits to silis7noy @ soompi & Hyunjin808 @ SSF
can anyone confirm this?
i thought you know the updates from snsd -____- guys relax the reason why the genie has the same sound as the indian 1 it was because it has the same composer DUH!! why the hell would they copy the indian or whatever that is…and lets be honest GENIE is better than the original 1 right?
First off, it’s an Uzbekistan song, not Indian.
Second, the reason why I didn’t want to say all that was because it was not confirmed. And yeah, I know I can post about rumors, but that requires more thinking on my part (and I had a long day. Plus, it was 2 something in the morning) so I decided to wait until something more official came out. I mean, what’s the point, all that could have been just a rumor as well, right?

[No, we own this song. Dsign are Universal writers. Girls’ Generation / SM were given this song exclusively to record and release.
The Uzbekistan release is an unauthorized, and unlawful version and not approved by us. GG/SM are at no fault at all. A press message will be sent out shortly. ]

and that what`s user name lovmate posted on YT.
I really think the song originally comes from SM…the Uzbekistan release is an authorized..
SM = winner
Uzbek = loser
I dont really care, SM doesn’t seem stupid enough to ‘steal songs.’ They obtain it with money haha. And no maria, i forgot which post it was -forgot-… but the song they were suppose to debut with was not this one.. it was revealed by isak, we even had a postabout this!!!
Er how about Lee Hyori’s 10 minute? It sounded ALMOST EXACTLY like Jenny on the Block by Jennifer Lopez.”J.Lo”
alright, this is annoying. i just wentback and searched up isak but i cant find the post…. but i swear someone here wrote about the song they were suppose to comeback with… and it was revealed by isak!
I remembered that Isak said snsd’s comeback song was supposed to be a cover of one of Duffy’s songs, but they decided to change it. Then we had Gee =)
Ohh.. I think it was me, but it’s not a post.. it’s on the comment section I think.
According to Isak the song they supposed to comeback with was remake of Mercy by Duffy.
that would sound so wrong! Yeah I heard the radio cut of Isak mentioning ‘Mercy’ by Duffy. Somehow my gut feeling tells me that the remake of ‘Mercy’ would be as good as Gee. Just imagine: the melody and the dance moves of Duffy’s song. Anyway, that song sounds very poppy, which is so SNSD’s style.
^ Now that’s a bit too harsh, whocares ^^
Man, I tend to come to conclusion too fast these days, seems like things are not what they seem to be.
But it’ll be great if what you guys said above is true. It’ll be a peace of mind for me. ^^
wow. i hope those antis won’t be hating again for this. but it really isn’t the girls’ fault. they just perform what they’re assigned. either way, the girls probably are gaining more popularity with this song than the person who originally sang it.
From Universal Music Europe:
‘We own this song. Dsign are Universal writers. Girls’ Generation / SM were given this song exclusively to record and release.

THE SONG WAS GIVEN TO SM EXCLUSIVELY. THE UXBEKISTAN RELEASE IS AN UNAUTHORIZED AND UNLAWFUL VERSION AND NOT APPROVED BY UNIVERSAL MUSIC EUROPE.
So the one copying is this Dineyra’s company.
SNSD FIGHTING!!!!!!!
lol they don’t have to.. because they didn’t do anything at all and just what the Universal Group said that they didn’t know that girl at all and she released it first so that it would be look the original song so definitely she copied SNSD 😉 ^^
Again, SM would not be that stupid. He would get all the rights to the song. I do agree that woman stole the song. I feel SM/SNSD are gonna get even more anti’s now so this group really need to apologize fast.
SM ALWAYS gets right to songs they use– that’s why they never get into trouble. but yea, so glad they came out with ‘gee’ before this song ^^
btw… that uzbek girl it’s not doing so great in the looks department. she should pay the girls for making the song/vid actually look good XD
eek…. was that too mean??? just being honest~
