As reported earlier, SNSD were awarded with the prestigious Prime Minister’s Commendation Award at the 2011 Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards ceremony. Among the many recipients, they were the only K-Pop idol group to receive this particular award.

The ceremony, which was held on November 21, is sponsored by the Korean government and recognises Korean artists who have made a significant impact on the development and advancement of Korean popular culture and arts. Among those awarded for their contributions, SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man was also presented with the Cultural Content Merit.

Along with performances by other K-pop artists including Beast, Wonder Girls and After School, SNSD performed their hit song “The Boys” at the show. Unfortunately, Yoona was not present to perform or accept the award presumably due to filming commitments.
