Since its release on the 1st of June 2011, sales figures for the Girls’ 1st Japanese album has been rising steadily…..

After a really hectic week, Girls’ Generation’s 1st Japanese Album “Girls’ Generation” sold 232,000 copies in its first week, reaching first place on Oricon’s Weekly Album ranking.

With this milestone achievement, the 9 ladies have broken BoA’s (a fellow SME labelmate) previous record for first week album sales by a foreign artist, a record which was held for approximately 9 years and 3 months.

Since their Japanese debut single “Genie” last September, this Oricon chart placing actually marks the first weekly number one for a Girls’ Generation single or album to date.

Marking a historical first for Korean girl groups, Girls’ Generation is also the second foreign female group to have a debut album rank number one in its first week of sales (after Russia’s female duo t.A.T.u., which achieved a similar standing approximately 8 years and 3 months ago).

Currently in the midst of their 1st Japanese solo concert tour, the 9 ladies commented: “We are thankful towards the fans that our album became number 1 on Oricon. Of course the ranking makes us happy, but especially the fact that lots of people listened to our album does also. We hope sincerely from the bottom of our hearts that this album can give the people of Japan even a little bit of courage and the light of hope.”

Now, isn’t that so sweet and caring of our 9 angels ?!! Even in their moment of triumph, these beautiful ladies still express words of encouragement and appreciate all the support given by fans all over. SNSD JJANG !!!
