SNSD released a Japanese album earlier this year which has since seen tremendous success, selling over 850,000 copies – and that number is still growing.
The SNSD Japanese mobile fansite has announced that there will be a repackaged version of the Japanese album, available from December 28, which will come in three editions: first press, limited, and normal.
The repackage will feature 15 tracks: the tracklist from the original Japanese album (with remixes of ‘The Great Escape’ and ‘Bad Girl’ replacing the originals), an additional remix of ‘Mr Taxi’, the Japanese version of ‘The Boys,’ and one new song titled ‘Time Machine.’

UPCH-29077 has the coasters. UPCH-29078 has the two posters. Same price on cdjapan.co.jp, but the two poster version is sold out. The poster version was a slightly higher price than the coaster version on yesasia.com, but the poster version is also sold out there. I ordered the coaster version from cdjapan (when I thought the posters were also included free) and the poster version from yesasia (when I was worried they would sell out). I don’t think I’ll end up with four posters, but I won’t complain if I do.

I wonder how the Japanese version of “The Boys” will sound like ? Hopefully they’ll translate the lyrical ideas from the Korean, rather than the English, version of the song (the former is more meaningful :)).

My two cents on SNSD’s “new” albums.
So the Japanese repackage album is much more like a true repackage album, with a new song, 3 remixes, plus a converted song. I am no record company executive, but this effort, in my opinion, should have been spent on salvaging the Korea album instead since the Japanese album is already very successful and critically acclaimed, while the Korean album has gotten mostly unfavorable critical reception due to its overly bubblegum sound and not enough oomph in the rest of the album to keep up with the epic title track ‘The Boys’, making the entire album feel disconnected and, dare I say, lazy.
The Mr.Taxi version of the 3rd Korean album has no new tracks (Mr.Taxi English version turned out to be a false rumor), so it’s same exact album with a different cover, making it a “Version B” and not a “repackage”. I thought for sure ‘Time Machine’, ‘Hikkup’, and ‘Let It Rain(Korean ver.)’ was going to be included in the Korean repackage, but SM always does something unexpected. The Korean album is in need of some help, and it’s going to take more than a new cover, which is why I’m begging for a true repackaging of the Korean album instead.
Even for a die hard fan this is hard to swallow, I can’t justify paying hard earned money for a new cover of an album I already have, and I can’t justify paying more than $50 for just one new song and some remixes. I have to make the tough but rational decision of not buying them. But I’d be really curious what the remixes sound like and what ‘The Boys’ sound like in Japanese. New song ‘Time Machine’ was one of the leaked demos before The Boys came out, and I already like it when I heard it even though I don’t remember what it sounds like now. In all honesty I doubt these two releases will sell as well as their originals, repackages and re-releases never sell as well historically, and budget conscious fans will most likely be skipping them in favor of future releases or other merchandise that gets more bang for the buck like the Holiday photobook and the Japan tour Blu-ray. Just my two cents.
I know, i am a little annoyed with this whole repackage thing. they didn’t even bother including a new title track or even just a new track. I have all the albums of the girls, photobooks, dvds but i am definitely not going to buy this one.
Mr. Taxi is not a repackaged album of The Boys, it is more like a Version B of the The Boys. The same album with a different photo jacket. The Boys doesn’t have a repackaged album.
