“Is this a cult?”
While SNSD was in America for SMTOWN Live in NYC last month, the girls visited the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show studio for a quick radio interview.
Like most radio shows on which we’ve heard SNSD, the interview was both informative and fun, as the girls discussed their pre-debut days with the host TJ and even tried to teach him some Korean. Tiffany and Jessica, who are fluent in Korean and English, answered most of the questions and as such explained their situations of moving to Korea at a young age, highlighting the differences between forming a band in America and forming one in Korea.
At the end of the show the girls present TJ with their album and a photobook, and Sooyoung gives a quick shoutout to one of the host’s Japanese friends.
You can listen to and download the interview here.

Wow thanks 🙂 Really interesting that the girls were able to broadcast this.
Although I have to say that to me the DJ was a bit ignorant about “non-western” culture (i.e. SM casting) and I winced a bit when they started talking about Fany’s past and her parents.
But this is what your going to get in America and the girls did a good job.
GG Fighting!
how the heck did they fit all this interviews/performances and all that in their tiny time of staying here?
By no sleeping i would think haha yeah probably
I won’t be content until they are on American television and become an American household name. >:|
You’re almost there girls, I believe in you and I’m proud of you for what you have accomplished so far.
SUNNY WAS BORN IN THE STATES!?! o:
WHATTHEFLIP D:<
lol late?
I believe SoNyeoSiDae I believe TaeYeon !!?
i wonder how fany felt when he started to dig deep into the family questions, never the less she handled them very well
That was an extremely interesting interview 😀 ! Thanks for the post, Cat :).
I must say that the concept of having 9 members (and females, to boot ;)!) is still an “alien” concept to most people, though I don’t know why, as per the questions posed to the ladies by the radio host.
To most people, I suppose, 9 ladies + talent + success + beauty = divas :(.
Well, I think that the 9 earthly angels of SNSD have proven that fallacy wrong time and again, once again, with their Agape Love for one another :D.
In addition, I’m glad to note that another SONE has been “born” after the close contact with the ladies and their lovable, dorky, fun-loving, caring nature.
Kudos to Soshi and the “Power of 9” 🙂 !!!
That Dj nearly had my fist on him.. he sounded like “What the heck is a 15yr old going to Korea and debut as a group?” or something…. but at the ending, he’s ok.. cs he declared his love for the 9..xDD Oh well, looks like no one can resist Girls’ Generation’s love..xD
Tiffany and I are like the same! We are both very self-determined. We were very willfully intent on doing what our hearts called us to do in spite of what others might say, including our parents. I feel a closer affinity with her, especially since I got her signature card in The Boys album =)
When the interviewer asked Tiffany how on earth did she make the decision to go from the US to South Korea, the answer is that it is a “CALLING” duh! God had a plan for all members of SNSD to come together. That is why there were so many “Coincidences” regarding the group such as birth places as stuff.
Another thing is, Girls’ Generation will never have the “diva” attitude of putting on airs and stuff, no matter how successful they become. That is because they are much higher than that!. SNSD is like Michael Jackson – Super Angelic and Childlike Forever!!! Only these are the Legends of legends.
ditto that 😀
zzzz jesus formed SNSD okie dokes
He probably wondered why Sunny wasn’t answering him in English when he kept addressing the three ‘who grew up in the States’ :p they should have said that she was born there but then moved!
Great interview, well done to Tiffany for not getting upset at the ‘parents’ thing and just continuing on with a happy demeanour 🙂
A “cult”?!
No… it’s a religion ;D
He tries to get them to talk about money and how they are “chosen” but I love that they are so humble and dont let him get them to agree with anything.
Sorry for off-topic. Our ladies will have a concert in Hong Kong on 15-Jan-2012. Most tickets were sold out within an hour! I am proud of being a SONE and the ladies will hold a concert in my city 🙂 Post an ad. we have everywhere in our public transport MTR

As happy as I am that the girls were on American radio, the interview itself sort of irked me. Next time, do your homework and do more legit research about guests on your show! It’s pretty obvious he just went to a fansite and printed the romanized lyrics to Gee without even listening to the song…even MTV did a better job than this radio show and I’m pretty sure Ryan Seacrest would’ve done better too -__- or maybe I’m expecting too much from an American radio show…
But anyways, the girls handled the interview well. Kudos to the girls, especially to Tiffany and Jessica!
hahahaaaa lololol…….
yeah, you are expecting too much from an American radio show. 99% of Americans don’t know SNSD and don’t care.
It is just that the US has such a large population that even .01% of the population can support SM Town. The total size of the US music market is small relative to other industries like film or television.
its a shame that not all the girls got to talk, eventhough there’s a translator there, that’d be cool! maybe next time!! and yeahh TJ should have done MORE research..!!
http://features.entertainment.jp.msn.com/gda2011/jp/vote/ VOTE FOR SNSD !!!!
big bang namber 1
TROOOOOOLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know the first line TJ said (or was trying to lol epic fail) when he was reading Gee. It’s Tiffany’s part where she’s like “o neomu bukkeureoweo chyeodabol su eopseo.” I think that’s why Tiffany said “Can you read it one more time?” haha lol
I figured it out when he was trying to say eopseo he was like “ee-up-see-oh” lol
he’s wondering why they’re so modest, if only he’d seen their other radio shows and tv shows. thy are awesome!!!!!!
these girls are just really sweet and modest, love snsd for that forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
