SNSD’s Yoona recently appeared on an MBC Chuseok Special called “Special Star Auction Show”. The show’s premise involves Korean celebrities putting up various items up for open bidding. Yoona had previously said that she would give away something near and deer to her.
She ended up auctioning off her Genie (Tell Me Your Wish) outfit from their Korean promotions (pictured above). It is said that Yoona wore the outfit more than 10 times during performances and appearances. What makes this uniform really special is the fact that it was created by their personal stylist.
Yoona estimated that the uniform would roughly generate 2 million won (Approx. $1,900 USD) in charitable donations. However the roughly 200 bidders invited to the show had higher valuations on her clothes. After fierce bidding between 85 bidders (many of them SONEs) who had interest in the clothes, it was finally sold for 6.7 million won ($6,200 USD). This surprised both Yoona and the guests on the show. Truly a reflection of Yoona’s popularity.
By the way, the winning bidder was a male K-SONE, who also had the pleasure of taking a photo with Yoona during the show. For making such a large donation, Yoona also ended up giving him a signed photo with a personalized message!
It’s really a win-win that this SONE got to donate money for a good cause, while feeding his personal fandom.

lucky who get that!!
(^_^)
*envy* I want that outfit too 😦
Wow a lot of money ._.
Damn how i wished i had so much money that i could spend 6000 $ on soshi stuff :O
lucky guy indeed, and the photo + autograph is awesome to ❤
I cant believe this site would post yet another story about Yoona but the one time Hyoyeon has a story of her own shes not mentioned anywhere. Heck there are two stories about Hyo right now
@Viane I personally appreciate the criticism!
I want to assure you that we’re not forgetting about Hyoyeon.
*WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD*
Even as we speak we have two members who are working on a special Hyoyeon Birthday post.
On top of that we have a big Taiwan/Taipei concert post, which includes Hyoyeon’s special birthday event from both the T-Sones and the Girls.
*END OF SPOILERS*
I’ll start a post about another Hyoyeon story, which I think you’re talking about. But I’ll do that after my exercise routine. So you’re going to have to wait another hour and be even more outraged. So apologies.
By the way, this post isn’t just about Yoona but a very loyal K-Sone and a charitable donation from both a SONE and an SNSD member. You certainly have the ability of voicing your criticism here. But in the future please post it in the Question/Comments section. That’s what it’s there for.
You answered it very gracefully, thank you. But please omit the word “outrage…” I drew a legitimate observation and I stand by it. In fact I could go on about why even given the fact there was a story about Yoona that story couldn’t even wait UNTIL AFTER both stories about Hyoyeon had run. Yoona is kind of like strawberry shortcake… the more of her, the less you want.
Seriously.. good journalism is about timing too, not just timeliness.
And to the person who told me to go post elsewhere, please refrain from making oxymoronic comments. Of course I support all 9 equally… that’s why I brought up Hyoyeon in the first place, 😐
“Yoona is kind of like strawberry shortcake… the more of her, the less you want.”
Sorry but that’s your opinion entirely, I don’t care if you are sick of her, don’t read it, coming on to a post about her and trying to trash her indirectly because of another member is stupid. All your credibility about loving all nine went down the drain when you decided to write this post rather than simply let it go and just ask for where the hyo post is, but you chose to say “why is yoona here first?” instead of just going to the comment page and asking “where is the new hyo post? I’ve seen it elsewhere already and it’s not on here.” But no, I’m sure you chose to do this so you can garner more attention amongst the known negativity you would receive, at the cost of belittling a CHARITY post just because it has a member that you deem is here too much.
The agenda here is that we already have plans for the news with hyo and you still want to respond to Steve negatively. If I really wanna nit pick, news about hyo in strong heart was yesterday while before this yoona post the last post about her was about a week ago. you not being able to handle yoona for more than once a week is your problem, or are you seeing stuff that we aren’t? and no SPAO stuff does not count cause that is not about her, that’s advertising for SPAO who choose among a selection of soshi and suju.
Complaining is fine if it’s constructive, every fan has their own problems, not just hyo fans, but don’t try to use another members news as a meat shield, There’s a question/comments section for this sort of thing on the VERY TOP of the blog, but no, you chose to be on another members news to rile some people up, there wouldn’t be any other reason to post it here rather than the question/comment section if not you wanting more eyes to see and respond, smart, but not fair to Yoona, I don’t care how many more posts she gets, it’s not her reporting the news.
“Yoona is kind of like strawberry shortcake… the more of her, the less you want.”
SERIOUSLY…how would you feel if someone said that to you “the more I hang out with you, the less I want to see you” my brain is full of derp with how hurtful this comment can be and you just throw it out there and claim to love all 9. If you’re gonna at least PRETEND to love all 9 equally (which is obviously not the case judging by the hyo bias which is fine) at least have the tact to see if the writing is hurtful to the other members or not, I’ve read lots of comments complaining about not having members here enough, but that comment takes the strawberry F****** shortcake. (you think the word outrage is bad…well F%*&!, your comment is more hurtful than a strong sword or even a swear word cause of who you direct it at) it ain’t the word its the context and I’m not belittling anyone with this directly, but you did and you managed to not use any bad words. I hope that comment was worth it, I really do, cause hyo will still come out as planned, but that comment is full of hypocritical derp.
This website is beyond oppressive, unprofessional and sectarian. If you look at the history of my comments, I’ve never said one bad thing about the girls. But of course the minute I point out the obvious with a rational basis to it, the staff rolls over in anger because I hurt their egos. Because that’s exactly what it’s about: EGO, and as I’ve noticed, using the girls as a vehicle to inflate it with every story of yours because those stories are just a vehicle to showcasing your literary skills. That, to me, is beyond selfish and unprofessional.
Finally, I cant help that you wasted thirty minutes of your time ranting about a simile which I thought was innocent and on point. It’s not like I said “I’m sick of Yoona” which I would never say, because *THAT* I know would be *hurtful.* It’s not even a fine distinction to grasp. It’s what a reasonably minded person would have thought too. So do I mind that you’re f******g angy? Not really. You wanted to be angry.
I’m happily on my way out from this place. It’s oppressive, and it’s fans like you that impinge on anyone else giving these girls a fair shot. If you want only rainbow comments to serve your sectarian appetite, all I gotta say is you’re in for a long ride because you’ll have to make up for that wasted time one day.
Just gonna butt in a little here.
Regarding the simile, it’s true for any member. Too much of anything or anyone has an almost sickening effect on people. Yoona happens to have a lot of articles written about her because, well, she’s in the news. Of course this is out of our control but what is in our control is what we choose to relay to readers, at what frequency and at what time. “Yet another story about Yoona” was in our control and I do apologise it if upset any readers, but honestly I don’t think the number of Yoona posts have been excessive as of late. Regardless, we love Hyoyeon, too, and there will be more posts about her soon! Ultimately, look at it this way: do you think Hyoyeon or any of the other eight ladies actually care about how much press coverage they’re getting?
Regarding this website’s professionalism (or lack thereof) and supposed egoism, I think circlejerk is more of the appropriate word. Self-congratulatory but without the arrogance, I’d like to think – this also encompasses our readers. (Although that sounds arrogant as hell, haha.) I haven’t been a staff member for too long but I can definitely tell that although lively discussion is always encouraged, negative comments about any of the girls are unacceptable. Criticism about the way the site is run is totally fine; it lets us know that we need to improve on and especially how we can go about making improvements. From this squabble, I can say that the point of argument progressed from the site/staff to the girls. From acceptable to unacceptable. I don’t care who’s in the wrong.
Moreover, and I’m sure this is true for all of the staff, we are not using the girls as a vehicle to inflate our egos. With any journalistic endeavour – online or in print – one naturally showcases their literary skills. We want to provide SNSD related posts in the most enjoyable – and accurate – way possible. That means well written. Each post we make is an exercise in our own writing abilities, but it’s more than that: it’s providing the news or opinions/other topics (when it comes to feature posts) to you guys.
Above all, and this is especially true for me, it’s an affirmation of our love for the nine ladies. If I applied to inflate my ego, I’d parade that around, I assure you. I’d be a complete asshole about it. I’d take any smidgen of so-called news, especially idiotic rumours, and write about them. I’d take an allkpop article about SNSD and blow the story up because that would surely inflate my ego looking at the site stats skyrocket if anything else. Using the girls and contentious, false rumours to get hits is selfish. Not taking into account how this could exacerbate/negatively alter the way others view the girls would be egotistical and so, so selfish. But no. I applied to this blog because it does the exact opposite of that: we choose our words and each topic carefully. We never want to show the girls in a bad light or incite any gratuitous disparagement or argument or disapproval about SNSD. In a way, this can be considered selfish glorification of the nine ladies – but I believe that they deserve all of the praise they’ve received. We’re real people with lives, too. We don’t get paid to write. We’re not using SNSD for monetary or egotistical gain. We write on this blog because it’s fun and we love the girls. That’s about it. Furthermore, when we write articles we do try to make them a bit more personalised. With a bit more flair to our words. Why? Because it’s good journalism for a blogsite. We’re a blog. If anything, we shouldn’t be spouting professionalism. But I’d like to think that we do.
This blog is here for the readers and above all, for SNSD. It’s not for us.
I’ve always felt that snsdkorean was one of the more quaint, homely SNSD sites around. If it were about our egos, we could definitely find another way to fuel them elsewhere.
@Viane Alright if you’re as rational as you claim to be, hear me out.
I made that “outraged” comment as a joke because you used language like “Heck” and “I can’t believe” in a rather negative context. I was just poking fun (in a sarcastic manner) and really didn’t mean for you to get personally offended.
In a response you called someone oxymoronic. However many of your statements so far have been oxymoronic in nature. For example when you say “I support all 9 equally… that’s why I brought up Hyoyeon in the first place.” If you support all 9 equally then why didn’t you also bring up Seohyun, Sunny, and Taeyeon? They all had “news-worthy” stories that day. Why didn’t we get a complaint about there lack of presence?
You contradict yourself further by saying “Yoona is kind of like strawberry shortcake… the more of her, the less you want.” We’ve had 2 Yoona post in the last 12 days. According to your logic this is too much, and you want less. So I guess that means spread out the 2 Yoona posts even further? Yet you don’t understand why the story about Yoona “couldn’t even wait UNTIL AFTER BOTH stories about Hyoyeon had run.”
But wait if you like all 9 equally, wouldn’t you get sick of Hyoyeon too?
Wouldn’t it better for it to go Hyoyeon->Yoona->Hyoyeon
That’s skewed logic isn’t it? Aren’t you suggesting priority rather than equality?
The whole tirade that you go on about the site being unprofessional and oppressive is a farce.
If this site was oppressive we would have deleted your post and wouldn’t have approved it (Yes we need to approve each comment before it’s shows on the comments page).
Oppression means “exercising authority in an unjust manner”. Did we delete your post? Did we silence you in any way? No, in fact we allowed it to be posted.
You defend yourself in your second paragraph by saying “I drew a legitimate observation and I stand by it.” To make an opinion freely and stand by it, is the basis of freedom of speech. By that very principle shouldn’t everyone be entitled to have an opinion on any matter in an open and non-oppressed environment? Dreadtech writes a response on your opinion, and argues that they are unwarranted and illogical(albeit with aggressive language). Hilariously enough, you respond by calling not just him, but everyone on the site “egotistical”. Then you follow it up with “rational logic” like “So do I mind that you’re f******g angy? Not really. You wanted to be angry.” He’s not angry, he’s opinionated, just like how you weren’t “outraged” when you voiced your original criticism.
Not only do you, as a “rational” person, attack Dreadtech on a personal level because of his views, but you even fail to question the legitimacy of any of his conclusions. There isn’t a single counter-argument in your response. Again you attack the source of the argument rather than the argument itself.
You also make the irrational and unjust assumption about 22 members of SNSD Korean team being egotistical based off of a single member’s response. This is something that I cannot stand for, especially from someone who claims to be rational.
You call us “unprofessional” yet your rebuttal in the 3rd paragraph are all personal attacks on the site and the writers. You question our integrity and say that we write to boost our egos. Again with nothing to support that claim. Certainly if we were writing to boost our egos we’d use our REAL NAMES.
You call us “sectarian” but doesn’t it take two to tango? Again if we were oppressive like you said, sectarian activity wouldn’t even exist because we would’ve deleted any resistance against our views as soon as possible. Also calling peaceful open-forum debate over the legitimacy of an individuals criticism to be the equivalent to sectarianism is wrong in itself. Millions of lives have been lost because of sectarianism. Using this term to describe an online debate over your opinion seems a little ridiculous.
Last time I checked being professional is a lot more than using fancy vocabulary and criticizing someone on a personal level when they don’t agree with you. In my mind being a professional would be hearing someone’s opposing views with a cool head and making logical counter-arguments from them. Attacking their personal integrity is the exact opposite of professionalism.
If we apply your own “rational” logic onto the 3 posts that you’ve made, it would actually suggest that you yourself fit under the criteria of being “unprofessional” or am I mistaken?
oh mang, there’s a party and I wasn’t invited!
kk, right or wrong, show’s over. I’ve read enough walls of text today that I want to bang my head against them. There’s no point in arguing over this, it’s not gonna go anywhere; let’s just stop. Please, no more replies from staff.
We try not to be biased, but sometimes it happens unintentionally due to the nature of news, the schedules of writers, etc. Some news may come before others, and an example of that was the Taiwan post which came out relatively late as well. We can be a bit critical and/or opinionated at times, and I apologize if we come off as egotistic, but I can assure you that that’s not what this blog is here for. Whether or not you believe what I said is up to you, but I’ve said what I wanted to say.
Viane, if you’re reading this, you can have the last word to all this if you wish. Otherwise, thank you for being a former reader of the blog. You may also e-mail me at admin[at]snsdkorean.com.
as sones (if you are) we support all 9 members equally,if u dun like this post than gtf out. no one here asks you to come here
Yay congrats to her! And it was for a good cause too!
I saw this live streaming on soshified last night. The show is a really cool concept, but only 6200 USD?? Surely, it is worth more than that if Yoona actually wore it!!!
in most cases auctions are mainly cash only events so im sure that the people there didn’t have the actual value of yoona’s outfit just lying in their pockets. ex: (1??,???) so i can see it going for that amount. Now that i think of it that’s still a lot of money to cary around. please excuse me if im wrong but i was just trying to shed a little light on it
Wow, things must be cheap in Korea. Too bad there weren’t foreign bidders because they easily could outbid $6200.
Please… U$6.000,00 for an outfit is not cheap anywhere in the world!
In fact there are people that live a year with much less than this.
And 200 bidders is not a lot of people, so you assuming that ”things in Korea
must be cheap” is just rude.
But I agree that if it was opened to international bidders the price would
be much higher.
OMG…the power of SNSD…..
SNSD, fighting! ^^
wow the amount of money he gave! at least it was for a good cause…. SOOO LUCK T____T
That is certainly a Lot of money to spend on a Soshi item 🙂 !
But, looking on the positive side, the money does go to a charitable cause, so, yeah, it’s cash well-spent :D.
Plus, he did get a personal photo opportunity with Yoona and a personally autographed (and messaged) photo of his idol as unexpected “freebies” ;).
(Anyways, I shouldn’t talk too much, considering I, too, spent a similarly large sum of money for Tiffany’s autographed CD cover during Soshified’s “Aid For Japan” tsunami disaster auction earlier this year 🙂 !)
omg can u take a pic of the cover b/c i really want to see it!!!
lucky guy! i salute you for the donation made!
SNSD fighting!!
When i converted that amount to my money (yesterday), i was like… 0_0 and I still am
“What makes this uniform really special is the fact that it was created by their personal stylist”
Ah so THAT’S why they looked best during Genie times! Even Hyoyeon had amazing hair, which is rare nowadays!
