Sooyoung has been hospitalised after a car accident that occurred Sunday morning as she was on her way to a volunteer service event providing vests for service dogs for the visually impaired in Chun An. Thankfully the Onesure Insurance company will be covering everything.
Reportedly, the accident was caused due to the negligence of a driver in the opposite lane, whose vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with Sooyoung’s, leaving her with injuries to her lower back area.
SM stated
Sooyoung is suffering from a sacrovertebral fracture from the car accident, but thankfully, the injury is nothing serious
Sooyoung’s doctor added that with treatment and rest, she will be fully recovered in no time but has to suspend all immediate activities to recuperate. She will thus not be able to attend the upcoming ‘SM TOWN – Tokyo’ and SNSD’s concert in Taiwan.
With SNSD’s anticipated Korean comeback round the corner, this may lead to a possible delay in promotions. However, waiting a little longer for SNSD’s comeback is nothing as Sooyoung’s health much more important.

“She (Sooyoung) will not be attending the 2 concerts scheduled, but SNSD’s Korean comeback will be not affected. Because their comeback date has not been confirmed, we will ensure that the treatment to her injury is fully completed by then”.
Fortunately SNSD’s comeback date was not yet confirmed allowing some flexibility to accomodate Sooyoung’s injuries.

Sooyoung gained a lot of strength after the visit of the SNSD members.

It’s been said that her tailbone is what was fractured. She’ll heal up in two/three months and be as good as new folks. ^^ As long as she properly rests that is.
Car accidents happen all the time everyday. And the odds are everyone in places where cars are the main source of transportation will experience a car accident AT LEAST ONCE in their lifetime. And frankly, SNSD travel more then the average person, So their chances go up. I’m just happy she isn’t fatally injured and that it was just her tailbone. She will be fine, so don’t worry too much and just keep her recovery in your prayers.
Don’t get angry at the driver. It was an accident. It’s not like he was looking to get into a car wreck, nor was he targeting Sooyoung. She happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. It happens.
I just pray that everyone else in the car accident is alright as well. Let everyone be alright..

I wouldn’t even bring up SNSD’s Korean comeback, but since SME mentioned it in their statement (and Sooyoung is in good spirits, at least)………
SME seems to rule out any notion of SNSD promoting (temporarily) as eight and, with comeback date flexibility, SME will ensure that her treatment will be fully completed before promotions begin. (Tiffany’s Gee and Hoot injuries were after promotions began.)
Well, who really knows how medical treatments progress? Does SME confirm a comeback date and hope that Sooyoung is healed by that target date, putting undue pressure on her rehabilitation to be ready by then or “play through the pain” as many of the girls have done in the past?
Or does SME play it cautiously and give Sooyoung all the time she needs to *fully* recover, and wait to even *announce* a comeback date until after she is ready to resume full activities? Of course, this may push the comeback date later into 2011, bumping up against other girl groups, and perhaps even affecting SMTown NYC (also unconfirmed) as the girls have to stay in in Korea for multi-week promotions with four music shows, a repackage, and their (legendary) variety appearances.
You can see in my post how the treatment for fractures in this specific area of the spine is done and how long it takes.
If what you say is indeed true, then it is likely the album may have to wait until at least December or even as far as February.
SM, I believe, will let her rest as far as possible. They may then release the album when they can delay no further and in performances, have her sit by the side and sing or something. I heard they did something similar for DBSK back then.
On the other hand, I think SM’s attitude towards SNSD is changing, and is considerably different from other idols. Two years ago, Tiffany was made to stand by the side and sing while the others dance. Last year, she was simply pulled out of the whole promotion and most of the events for the promotion cycle postponed or cancelled and left until after Tiffany returns before the Hoot promotions resume proper. These days, SNSD were given on occasion short breaks which I would say is unexpected and totally unheard of if it was even just one year ago.
Clearly SNSD’s importance to SM from a long-term business perspective is clear to them. They may push them hard, but when it comes to issues that may affect SNSD’s long-term career, I don’t think SM will want to fool around.
I believe only Sooyoung and maybe her sister were present at the time. Probably the other girls were not required at the event. Thank the heavens, I guess.
To most of you who don’t understand, Sooyoung is suffering from a fracture in the sacral vertebra, a segment of 5 vertebral bones just above the tailbone. A fracture like this can result in lower body pain, as well as sexual, urinary and fecal discomfort. It can also potentially lead to nervous problems.
A minor fracture – as in Sooyoung’s case – can recover with rest alone. A major fracture will require additional surgery, but so far nothing indicates that Sooyoung requires that. In the case of a minor injury, it typically requires 6-8 weeks to heal. After that the body must be given protected weight-support for 1-2 months, totalling about 2-4 months for this part of the treatment. After that, she’ll need to go for at least 12 rehabilitation sessions over 6 weeks to recover body flexibility through various exercise regimes. After that, she can be considered generally recovered like Tiffany back in the Hoot days, but she’ll need a grand total of 9 months starting from now before the fracture can be considered fully recovered.
The good news, fortunately, is that in all cases regardless of severity, a full recovery can be expected as long as treatment is followed accordingly.
So I can say that Sooyoung will fully recover and comeback one day, but it’ll take quite a good while before she does.

SME’s statement did not hint at Sooyoung’s *long* road to recovery. SME knows more of Sooyoung’s diagnosis/prognosis than we do, so I trusted (and still have a hopeful trust) their words of “nothing serious” and “comeback will not be affected.”
Would it be so bad if a full-strength nine-membered Soshi comeback is pushed into 2012?. SNSD has had a banner 2011 already with their Japanese efforts, and they are still very much in the Korean spotlight even without an album (unlike, say, the Wondergirls who seemed to abandon their home market for a considerable stretch). Moreover, their early-year releases like 2009’s Gee and 2010’s Oh! gave them great momentum to propel them to the year-end awards in those years.
I desperately hope Sooyoung gets better soon. I will definitely pray for her ❤

That is absolutely not true.
The world is fallen and under the curse which is the reason why bad things happen.
Without divine intervention, things could be much worse.
It is God’s protection that keeps the injury only minor, and His Grace that will help Sooyoung recovery speedily and with much support from others around her.
You never know how much negative things are lessened in severity because of the grace of God, and you never know how much positive things are amplified and multiplied because of the grace of God. SNSD is under His Grace.
