9 angels, anniversary congratulations, beautiful girls, dreams, girls generation snsd, hopes, joys
For their recent 9th anniversary, the Metro Seoul newspaper managed to snag an interview with our favourite 9 ladies….
Girls’ Generation recently sent congratulatory messages consisting of nine different colors (styles) for Metro Newspaper’s ninth anniversary. Four years post-debut, the ladies have progressed from being the Korean nation’s representative girl group to Asia’s Top female group.
Being very similiar to Metro Seoul, in that they are very active on a global scale, and having secured their place as front-runners, the ladies all said that they hoped to share their joyous moments with Metro, which was with them when they started their careers. Read the translated article below:
Metro and the girls who are in their 4th year after debuting
It hasn’t been quite four years since their debut performance on a show on August 2nd, 2007. However, their success was made possible thanks to their sweat and hard work during their training period, which averaged five years. During that difficult period, their most dependable companion was Metro Newspaper.
“Before I debuted as a Girls’ Generation member, I always had Metro in my hands and enjoyed reading it while going to my school or practice room. Every morning was entertaining because there were fun and varied news reports.” (Taeyeon)
When their long training period was over and the countdown to their debut had begun, Metro wrote the first article about them (page 34 of the July 18, 2007 issue, titled “9 Female Ulzzang [literally ‘best face’] High School Students, ‘Female SuJu’ Unveiled”). They still vividly remember when that article was published.
“I can’t forget the sense of pride and nervousness I felt. I remember that the members were so happy that they weren’t even able to correctly read the article.” (Sooyoung)
They believe that the key factor behind their popularity is the fact that they have clearly shown their growth to their fans. They said that this, too, is something that they have in common with Metro.
“We always contemplate about new concepts so that we’re able to give off a fresh feeling. We’re able to stay strong because there are fans that like and look forward to our transformations. Likewise, I think that Metro’s charm is its ever-changing, fresh, young energy.” (Yuri)
“Thank you for creating a good memory for us.” (Hyoyeon)
“I hope Metro will grow even more than it has during these past 9 years.” (Tiffany)
“Please continue publishing good newspapers that sparkle like the morning sunlight.” (Sunny)
Japanese tour (starting May) 31st, attacking foreign markets
They are dreaming of taking another leap forward and are going to start their focused attacks on foreign markets on the 31st. They start their Japanese Arena Tour on the 31st and then they will hold their second Seoul concert and Asia tour right after.
Eight months after their Japanese debut, they are holding their first arena tour. With two additional concerts being added, they will have fourteen concerts in six cities and will be performing until July 18th. They will be performing in Tokyo, Osaka, Saitama, Hiroshima, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. Half of the concerts were added due to fans’ explosive demands and the 150,000 seats are certain to sell out.
“The most memorable moment last year was our showcase, which was our first Japanese performance. I had the strange feeling of excitement mixed with the fear of being in a foreign country and I could not believe that we were so welcomed. I want to meet a lot of new fans in various areas and I want to leave new stories and meanings wherever I go.” (Seohyun)
On July 23rd and 24th, one week after spending a warm summer in Japan and ending their Japanese tour, they will meet Korean fans through their “2011 Girls’ Generation Tour” at Olympic Park’s Gymnastics Gymnasium. During their previous Asia tour, they showed their outstanding singing and performance skills, as well as their ability to come up with high-caliber performances. On top of this, their teamwork will be polished to perfection after their Japanese Arena Tour. People are looking forward to them showing all of these qualities on the stage in Seoul.
The Seoul concert is the start of their Asia tour, which will continue in Taipei, Taiwan, and Nanjing, China, with additional concerts expected to be added in major Asian cities. Their activities aren’t limited to Asia though. On June 10th and 11th, a month before they will be in the middle of their busy Japanese tour, they will take part in the “SMTOWN Live World Tour in Paris” with other agency artists at Le Zenith de Paris.
“I’m already excited just thinking about personally experiencing the K-Pop fever that is going on in Paris. Last year’s LA, USA concert with fans of many different nationalities was moving, and I think I will be moved once again.” (Yoona)
They will release their first Japanese album “Japan 1st Album–Girls’ Generation” on (June 1st) and increase their popularity in the Japanese music industry.
“Our break between Korean promotions has increased, but we will use the experiences gained overseas to come back more mature.” (Jessica)
(TL note: The text above the members’ signatures says, “Metro, congratulations on your 9th anniversary!!”)
Isn’t it so like our 9 angels to share their successes, joys, hopes and dreams with all and sundry ;).

Awesome interview! But wherever I look It’s the SM Town Paris thingy, which I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wanted to go to. But I can’t go 😥 Oh well
I wish one day SNSD will go to every country to do atleast a concert! i really want them to go to Australia. Nothing really much happens here, I will be waiting for them XP
Does anyone know of an update when the extra date in Paris is going on sale/ still going ahead? with the additional cost of having to get from London to Paris i need to at least try and get the cheaper tickets.
Wwwwhhhy Paris? come to London!!
i want their autograpghs…
each of them so unique in their own way….
love you all girls…
SNSD, fighting! ^^
Here are my thoughts on this article.
Seeing as how Metro newspaper and the ladies are in a ‘close’ relationship right from the beginning, I find that there isn’t any sort of hesitation in expressing themselves clearly about their honest intentions and thoughts about who they are, their fans and special events SNSD hold dear to them. All while exercising humility, remaining humble and wise, yet they’re able to act however way they want to as responsible adults. Fun for everyone.
Certain paragraphs and sentences which the newspaper dictated(?) were testaments to the ladies’ massive popularity which was not only limited to Asia, but the entire world. I’m too lazy to quote most of those lines in the article, except “Half of the concerts were added due to fans’ explosive demands and the 150,000 seats are certain to sell out.”
You can kind of get an idea.
Finally, the newspaper concluded with SNSD’s upcoming events like the concert in Paris and such, with Yoona (perhaps also the rest of SNSD) expressing her (suppressed) excitement over meeting new fans in new countries and places, citing how the overwhelming response they received in other countries like L.A would probably be the same the minute they land in France for their concert(s).
In conclusion, I find that this article was more than just a worthwhile read for a “seemingly casual observer” (I still am), and I highly urge everyone to read it from start to finish instead of reading the segments which you’re most interested about (like knowing the dates and host cities of when and where the concerts will be held, respectively) and disregarding all else.
Anyway, all thanks goes to Kenneth (and anyone else) for managing to locate this article, then putting it up here for everyone from all walks of life to read. Kudos to you, bro!
Erase the 2nd paragraph and replace it with this one.
*Quotes like “Half of the concerts were added due to fans’ explosive demands and the 150,000 seats are certain to sell out.” exemplified the ladies’ immense popularity which wasn’t limited to South Korea, but spread out overseas to Japan and the entire world, like the western continents. Also, certain paragraphs and sentences which the newspaper wrote in their article about our beloved angels were (sort of factual) testaments to their massive popularity. And to a certain extent, you can kind of get an idea of how these sentences dictated how far SNSD have come in their careers to the point that they almost acquired worldwide recognition. (Although there are some exceptions)
OH MY GOSH i really in love with SNSD. Day by day, my love to SNSD are keeping on increasing. They’re so powerful !! i love them non stop.. they’re my forever and only !!! SNSD hwating

For those unfamiliar with the Metro newspaper, it’s a global newspaper with localized editions in major cities that is given away free in downtowns and major commuter hubs It’s designed to be read casually while on public transit systems, targeting the person who is on the go and too busy to keep up with the news. The articles in the New York edition that I am familiar with are extremely short, so you can probably even read it while driving. It’s a junk-food McPaper if there ever was one, with little or no nutritional value.
If I were ever to read an article like this in the NY edition, I’d freak out, but not because it’s about SNSD (like Terrez said, the article is aimed at the casual reader, which is good to convert people to Soshi). No, I’d freak out because an article of this length would be the longest article ever published by the NY Metro.
How I wish the Metro newspaper here in Sweden would publish a Soshi article ❤
OMG. I read this newspaper when I go to school. I live in Canada!
Great article and awesome group picture. I love how our maknae is posing with a “gun”. =)
Yay, we have Metro here! (:
