Here’s some more Girl Group Lovin’!
SNSD‘s ‘rival’, KARA, recently returned to the Kpop scene with a new single and a popular booty dance hip shake dance. Today, they were guests on Taeyeon‘s radio show, ChinChin to do some more promotions.
Haha, such cute dorks. I haven’t watched the rest of the show (besides what was linked above) so I can’t tell you what’s going on because I just got home, too tired, and currently listening to the new>> DaVichi song<< instead.

TaeYeon doesn’t begin speaking until 5:42 of the first video.
About 2:27 of the second video they performed “Wanna” from their latest album “Revolution”. I wanna compare this to having SungHee in radio performances — but I’ll spare you.
Let’s do it.

You can probably guess what I’m gonna say. That the vocals are more ordinary with Hara and JiYoung instead of SungHee. Now, they’re just another girl group with some good music to distinguish them.
KARA’s sound with SungHee and Gyuri’s blending plus SungHee’s power gave the group a totally different sound from anyone else — especially since the smart song arrangers who knew how to make the most of SungHee. Not even the 9 voices of SNSD could quite match them. Of the groups I know, only BIG MAMA could out sing the first-year KARA.
Can’t agree with you enough on everything you said because I’ve said it myself countless times (well, besides that Big Mama bit).
There’s just something about 4 member groups that work really well if all of them can sing. They just really blend well with each other since the voices are all different, sort of like Big Mama and CSJH.
DSP may have lost good management when the heads during the FINKL time left… but whoever took care of music did a good job with KARA 1. The thing about Sunghee and Gyuri is, Sunghee’s voice really filled Gyuri’s voice in and together, it sounded great. Seungyeon’s strong (well at that time, it was still working on getting stronger) angelic voice, Nicole and Gyuri’s filler voices, and Sunghee’s power vocals- they had a lot of great vocal potential.

CSJH are good singers too but, somehow, without a SungHee of their own. They sound good together without sounding special together. That’s what the SungHee-Gyuri combo did. Their high registers above SeungYeon and Nicole’s lower ones created that pleasing bell-like sound.
You mentioned noticing SeungYeon and Nicole during radio performances. One of the things I liked about their radio performances was that they could all be heard and gauged. I learned which parts belonged to which — how each sounded. And I learned that SeungYeon and Nicole could hold their own. And I learned to like that mushy song from TITANIC — “My Heart Will Go On” — they did a super job on it.
I suppose I should mention SungHee’s presence in interviews. She wasn’t shy. She wasn’t retiring. She was fun and engaging. And her speaking voice was a blaster. It probably knocked over anyone standing too near.
Good point. I feel without Sunghee, Gyuri doesn’t sound as great. I guess it’s because they’re straining her, suddenly bombarding her with all the “Sunghee” notes to make up for a loss. Then agian, I guess it helps that Seungyeon worked out her lung issues and can hold a note of her own during dance performances now.
What I liked about KARA1 is that they all sounded crystal clear… very easy to hear all their voices as opposed to CSJH. As much as I love CSJH, their harmonies or climaxes in songs sort of sounded cloudy.
Well, before, Sunghee used to keep to herself. In fact, she was shy and sort of looked too serious (sort of like the Sica ‘ice princess’ thing). But Gyuri and her admitted that after some time, Gyuri helped her get out of her shell. When meeting people, Gyuri would always hold her hand and lead the way although Sunghee had been a trainee for longer. But I know for sure when it was just the four of them, interview or selca, Sunghee was just the loudest… crazy…

Oh Shiiiiiiiiiiiii . . . New Davaichi song!?!?!? BRB listening now.
WOW so awesome.
Oh Kara + Taeyeon is great too. Is it true Taeyeon and Seungyeon are starting a shorty club? That would be great since they’re my favs. ^_^
