Not exactly the solo career I would have envisioned, but an appearance is an appearance. Has anybody actually seen this btw?

——————–

SNSD’s Tiffany has been chosen to be the third vocalist of “Oppa Band.”

On the 5th on MBC’s Sunday Sunday Night – Oppa Band, the manager Kim Gura schedules a performance. He calls the 2nd vocalist Seo Inyoung, but as she is overseas for her own schedule, he arranged to bring in Tiffany last minute. Continue reading →

SNSD worried about becoming MILFS? And what would SNSD be w/out SNSD?

Har har, what I do to get people’s attention. Don’t deny it; you were interested

Yes, as these girls get older, they WILL be the next generation of MILFS; “MILFS Generation” if you will. Is that really such a bad thing?

But seriously, I don’t know why the girls are worried about the aging process, and how old age will only bring with it a fading away of interest. If you ask me, people have the mistaken notion of contrasting youth with maturity, and how the 2 are mutually exclusive.

Not so, if you ask me.

Yes, these girls aren’t getting any younger, but have they matured? I respond with a resounding Hellyeah! I still think that their music retains a freshness and youth that is coupled with more mature musical sensibilities; otherwise, their music would just continue to remain static, with no sense of musical adventure or growth. To put it in layman’s terms, they’re the shit.

In a totally unrelated point, the responses the girls gave to this parallel universe without SNSD is pretty interesting and definitely speaks to their individual characters. Check it.

——————–

They’ve become sexy. They’ve become mature. They’ve become ladies. When So Nyuh Shi Dae’s (Taeyeon, Sooyoung, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Tiffany, Jessica, Seohyun, Yoona, Sunny) 2nd mini album cover was released through the internet, the transformation of So Nyuh Shi Dae has heated up the online discussion boards.

It was because the refreshing and cute ‘national younger sisters’ So Nyuh Shi Dae has shown a 180 degree change in their appearance. However the So Nyuh Shi Dae that I got to meet still had their pure and youthful personality. They were ‘girls’ in everything they did, from joking with one another or laughing at a bug flying across the room. Continue reading →

Girl Groups, An Explosive Competition ‘2nd Round Starts’ (and why ‘Genie’ is going to kick @ss and take names)

Ok, I honestly don’t know why I’m posting this (and for that matter, why are you reading this?) when there is a NEW SONG you all should be LISTENING TO. So before proceeding with the article, please, support the girls and give the song a whirl. Would I be jumping the gun here by, dare I say it, saying it’s almost as good, if not better, than Gee? Or did I just commit blasphemy? (For the record, I’m really diggin’ the song. It seriously is the shizzzzz)

In any case, summer’s here. And with it, the 2nd round of the girl groups frenzy. Gee was all the rage and I wouldn’t be surprised if “Gee”nie will be as well.  The girls’ new image is fresh (for me, let’s just say legs that stretch on for miles) and a departure from the “cute” concept that seems to have saturated the k-pop market since Gee came out and became a trendsetter. What is even more awesome and important is how they’re totally setting themselves apart from the whole 2ne1 style which is also making itself out to be a trend of its own. Definitely appreciate the new musical direction they’re taking.

My wish? To see the 9 raiding the world once again. Let’s go for 10/10 girls!

Genie for yo’ weeesh foolz; this song is seriously so win.

From Baggy Shirts, to Colorful Skinny Jeans, to Sailor Suits: Tracing a Cultural Phenomenon

Wow, after looking at that title, I actually sound like some pretentious Ph.D student trying to score big with a breakthrough thesis. But then again, who’s to say the girls’ fashion sensibilities are anything but revolutionary…

No doubt that the promo pic that was released caused an explosive reaction. I don’t know how they did it, but they’ve managed to live out the fantasies of many a male out there, and they didn’t even utter a single word yet. The power of 9 fo’ sho’. I”m really digging the  “Marine Girls” concept, but it sort of begs the question: What cultural impact will this have? Will we see sailor suits walking down the street as nothing but the norm?

Digging up this article from the Chosun Ilbo Newspaper regarding the colorful skinny jeans trend, check it:

The most striking trend is for colorful “skinny” jeans in red, yellow, pink and green, which started appearing early last year. At first they seemed too tight and garish to catch on, but suddenly sales are soaring. Setting the fashion is Girls’ Generation, a K-pop girl group who perform in these pants.

The recession has been blamed for this sudden interest in happy colors. Kim Ran-do, a professor of consumer behavior at Seoul National University, explains, “People are seeking consolation from vivid colors.”

At online shopping sites such as G-Market, sales of colorful skinny jeans rose by more than 50 percent in February, as well as expanding the customer base from women in their 20s or 30s even to men.

Looking at this cultural phenomenon, I decided to outline the progress of the trend of the skinny jeans, and see if I can predict with a certain degree of accuracy, with plenty of room for error, of how the “Marine Suit” trend will play out.

So from this:

If this is what the future has in store, then I’m likin’ where this is goin… He He, alrighhhhht.

Oh right, the article. Continue reading →

Talk about bragging rights, here’s my claim to fame, in all its personally-hand-signed glory:

Translation: “Oppa, I love you.”

SHE’S MINE FOOLS!

(High fives all around)

…..

I kid, I kid! Although, who couldn’t help but brag if they had one of these? I most certainly would (obviously). And I’m not alone!

Seriously. Best. Marketing. Gimmick. Ever.

Girls’ Generation, also known as SNSD and Soshi, counts fans from Canada and Panama to the Philippines and Germany. [JoongAng Ilbo]

An eye-catching advertisement appeared in a local daily newspaper Wednesday. It was composed of messages from fans celebrating the birthday of Yoona, a member of Girls’ Generation, or SNSD, a popular Korean girl band.

It’s grown fairly common these days for fans to run ads in newspapers to commemorate their idol’s special day. Fans are willing to share the cost of such a venture and decide the design of the ad on their own.

However, there was something special about this ad – the congratulatory messages were not only in Korean, but also in many foreign languages. There was English, Chinese, German and Arabic, among others.
