The moment we’ve all been waiting for… days, weeks, MONTHS spent writhing impatiently in anticipation for the girl’s comeback. Well my friends, the MOMENT HAS FREAKING ARRIVED! THE GIRLS’ ARE BACK!
SM finally unveiled the MVs for ‘The Boys’ through their youtube channel at midnight (give or take a few minutes), officially marking 19th October 2011 ‘Girls’ Generation Day’. The english version of ‘The Boys’ also went on sale digitally through amazon and iTunes while the full korean album was released through various Korean music sites. Yes people, imagine the sacrifice I am currently making as I write this post, you wouldn’t imagine what I’d give to camp in front of my screen for the next few hours hitting the ‘replay’ button over and over again. 😛

I must say I am disappointed with the song. The video is great, the chorus just sounds wrong, there is no accendio in the song(the part near the end where it slows and then goes all out(like gee)), I don’t get the ‘theboystheboystheboys’ near the start of the video. I’m a sone till I die but I wouldve much more preferred an english version of genie which is imho their best song to date.
Clearly, SME values Genie very much, as it was their debut song in Japan, but I don’t think that SME secured the English-language rights to Genie, as it has already been formally released by someone in Europe under the title “I Just Wanna Dance.”
Moreover, this was not meant to be just a U.S. release. It is supposed to be their Korean comeback with an English-version for overseas markets, so they had to come up with brand new material. (A U.S.-specific release of an existing SNSD hit would mean SME was going out of its way to enter the U.S. market, which is riskier than this soft-launch of an English-language version of a Korean song they were promoting anyway.) But who knows, maybe there will be English-language versions of other SNSD hits for their maxi-single physical CD being released in November.
And yeah, a Korean and English-language “Hikkup” (that track by that composer who does work for SME) would have that more familiar verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus that would have swept people off their feet.
Yeah I agree.. I love them girls sincerely but right now I’m soaked with disappointment because of The Boys song.. There’s no part that I can actually sing along.. Not rap along; to be emphasized..
Maybe SM is bringing the girls image to a more mature category, but still, the song does not fit the girls’ image to my opinion..

hello everybody i want to apologize for yo all (fans and espically my girls snsd) to say that song was a tragady and made me feel that snsd have more but not that. however, my first impression change 360 degree and i want to say that song is fantastic and amazing song it shows the unity and the talant that states”: snsd are girl group who make the history, to have this flexiblity to combet other groups.

Normally, I would leave the music video playing in a separate tab while I work. However, the amount of eye-popping content in the MV is more than enough to warrant a watch on every single occasion.
The main selling point for me are the elaborate sets and the stunning production designs, but who could forget the 9 ladies. I understand how repeatedly uttering ‘The Boys’ attributes to the song’s catchy-ness, but I find that it’s a bit too much, and could potentially wear out the casual fans who aren’t accustomed to such music. As for the dance moves, ‘fierce’ and ‘charismatic’ is all I gotta say, really.
Dazzling in every sense of the word, ‘The Boys’ look set to capture the hearts of men around the world with its strong, vibrant and addictive rhythm, and I can’t wait to see how it all pans out from there on out.
The reason Why I like about these Girls cause they don’t stick with the same style of music. Every album it’s different. So girls let’s bring the boys OUT. Lol
Like other sones, I diehard fan have been waiting so long for this music video to come out. I know how other people are saying they are disappointed with the results, although I somehow feel this way, I still am going to support my girls as they grow and mature. Even though I am just a fan 2 times younger than maknae Seohyun, I just feel so proud as I see their music videos and the way they carry themselves become more mature. So true sones, no matter how disappointed you are, we must support snsd forever! Like Tayeon said in Phuket, that Sone and SNSD have a common goal that is too carry on Girls Generation as without each of them, the other members do not want to be in the team!Fighting!

I have to hear the song more times until a defenitive opinion, it is good but no super (yet).
My comments to the MV, in one word, disappointed. Girls are better than ever but once again the same MV concept, a dance video. Better than “Bad Girl” but the same lack of imagination. Dance MV is just not my thing. Nice super slow motions and beautiful close-ups are not enough. Is not easy to concept a MV with 9 main characters, but SM should have done a little (a lot) more than this MV.
By the way, I am a proud Sone and i will buy the album 🙂

Holy mother of angels, this is HOT! I actually love the song – to me it sounded sort of choppy the first time, but it only took a second listen for me to fully love it.
I LOVE that they always evolve both musically and stylistically! I agree that the first part sounds a bit Britney-ish, in the best way (as in, regardless of voice or performances, she does still get the best of the best of hypercommercial pop and the best production), but the bridge (or whatever it is, the rap part from the teasers) reminds me of Gwen Stefani’s solo work a LOT. The style seems sort of like a merge of their Run Devil Run style(s) and the Bad Girl outfits – and the sound actually seems like a sort of evolution (and perhaps a westernisation) of the sound from their Live Japanese concerts, slightly edgier and with a heavier base line than what they’ve done before. And I LOVE IT! It’s got mega-hit written all over it.
I LOVE LAZY GIRL. I replayed it a million times.

SONEs who say their disappointed with the MV because of the lack of a story-line have to understand that it’s not something we can do. Our Soshis’ are only trying to expand to a different kind of style and see what type of styles goes with them. Would it have been a greater music video with a story-line, I believe so, personally. As a music video, it was pretty strong. Maybe with this album we’ll get another music video that could be GREATER.
WE as SONEs can only continue supporting our girls and help them become a global success. 😀

I love it. It’s new, different and they make it work. Yeah, it may take some getting used to, but like every other song, you’ll be learning the lyrics and dance. I especially love the english version, great job girls. Even though you don’t like to song, you’ll still support them, right? You know they can do this?!!
Spent a fortune today buying all their products this morning! Not a fan but supporting Asian women in the Entertainment business. Not too thrill with this album but realized it’s a new concept for them. They’ll be just fine as they are beautiful and full of hearts and determinations! Wishing them all the best in the world! I know it is already a challenge being in the entertainment business in a male dominated society. Hopefully someday all women will be standing equally on podium with men. All the best tothe power of 9!
Okay. I was worried when the teasers came out. But after seeing the whole thing: Oh man, they freakin’ delivered!!! MV is great. The story is subtle, but it’s there. Sets are well done, superb lighting, nice camera work. And most of all: it doesn’t have cheesy feel that Bad Girl had. One thing made me clench my teeth: that matrix-like scene from the intro: same FX as in Genie, and unfortunately done the same, cheap way. Pretty please don’t do that anymore. 🙂 The track itself is much better than I expected. The chorus stands out and I perfectly understand that some of you may not like it. But I get the producer’s idea here and I like it.
And The Girls… Oh my… I guess there is no need to write about that. 🙂 I am definitely Sooyoung-biased, and on each Taeyeon scene I feel like a cheater. And on each Seohyun scene I feel like a cheater. And on each Sica scene… And on each Sunny scene… Aiiish… Gotta love them all, right? 😉
As it comes to Eng. version – it’s OK, but I much prefer the “original” one. Although they sound really good and confident (again, better than I expected), there is something… not completely right.
P.S. My girlfriend just told me that I should put a public note here that I love her anyway. 😉 Sheeesh… Life of a SONE… 😉
Finally … I got my own chance to listen to the album!
Honestly, the title track is fairly good,but it doesn’t stand out.
I’m kinda got the “feel” when I was listening to the first part of the song.
But once it progressed to the reff, the feel is lost.
The reff is so plain somehow. Just chanting, no real singing.
The song has no peak. It’s a good song to hear, but not to listen.
I’m worried it won’t match any epic songs the girls have done before, like “Gee”, “Genie”, or “Oh!”. It might goes up in the chart well, but I think it wouldn’t last for a long time.
What surprised me is they included the promotional song for Vita500, “Vitamin”!
I love the song since the first time I hear it. The song is very SNSD!

Overall, the album is good. If it wouldn’t be critically acclaimed, let’s hope it will be acclaimed commercially, like what SM and producers always wondering. Not only for Korean and the US market, but other countries as well.

“How Great is Your Love” written by Sooyoung is definitely one of my favourite songs on the album. I always love it when the girls sing a ballad and she did a great job with the lyrics.
VITAMIN/Lazy Girl are fun songs, and TRICK & The Boys are the most catchy for me. Haven’t quite listened to every song yet but so far the album is good =]
many say the mv really good… so that make some fans especially suju fans angry cause they think sme takecare the girls more than suju and other… they say snsd, sme favourite… i want to say no, they get equal but i think same like them but i liked!!!

As expected, lack of storyline, but it didn’t bother me. However, I do feel the song is a bit choppy, I mean the chorus didn’t explode out. The verse and bridge leading up is better than the actual chorus itself, not that I’m saying the chorus is bad, just not explosive, yet…The first bits and final bits kinda remind me of Lucifer, with their harmonize computerize voices. Anyway, overall I thought is song is decent, it could have been better, but it could also be a lot worst.
As for the girls, there’s no point describing, no words will fit, they are beyond wonderful. Love them. The dance works as well. Looking forward to their stage performance.
Last note, the girls crossing each other in slow-motion during the intro looks very similar to Mr. Simple. SM must love this style. 😀

Guys, i LOVE the song, the MV, the choreo, and the outfits!!
And i also fell in love with ALL the other songs in the album. You can find a lot of cute soshi trademark songs in it.. I just can’t understand the people who are calling the song trashy and bad when i bet they only listened to it once and then just started criticizing and bashing. The girls are bringing something new to the table, so i guess we should take a couple of more replays to fully enjoy and understand the song. It actually has a very unique beat, melody, and rap. It’s like a never-before-heard music and it sounds so fantasy-like. So just let the song grow in you. Remember, Soshi still got more tracks other than The Boys so to people who are slightly disappointed with how The Boys turned out, you can check those other songs that are surely, will make you smile, because it’s sooo awesome and sweet ^^

It’s about time! I was pretty excited for their comeback. I love both the korean and english version. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the english one until I heard it. I’m absolutely sold. There are some great new tracks on the album as well.

Sincerely, I hated The Boys. The video looks great, but the song is horrible. I can’t even say how disappointed I am with it.
It sounds generic and too much like other american groups/artists (Pussycat Dolls and Gwen Stefani, mainly). SM went all the wrong way around to release something “appealing” to the western public. I hate it so very much.

I’ve watched it probably 30-40 times by now and I still haven’t got all the spazzing out of my system…

I died.
I thought Theboystheboystheboystheboys at the start was terrible and irksome to hear. The mv was okay even without any storyline and it was refreshingly pleasant to hear all nine members have at least 4 lines.
However, none of the songs in the album can be considered good material. Their ballads are way short of their Japanese In the rain standards. The only notable song with slightly better arrangement would be Top Secret. I especially like the trumpets!
A fairly disappointing release but as with Soshi’s other albums, usually only one track per album hits the charts on the music shows and my bet is that the trend will continue with The Boys.
With every album, other than the sole track that might become a chart-topper, they usually have two or three more redeeming songs that they sing and promote at concerts or events.
For me, it would have to be Top Secret and Mr Taxi.
Out of 12 tracks in the album, final score would be 3/12 or if more tolerating of bad arrangements and vocal suitability, 2 more tracks are okay which probably would be 5/12.

this definitely grows on you.. at first, i was quite disappointed, wait no, i was REALLY disappointed but after replaying it, it’s addictive. =) very catchy..but i’m worried that the others won’t like it that much…
