With the girls getting ready for japanese promotion with Tell Me Your Wish, they took time to sit down with Marugoto magazine to talk about fashion, music, food, and who can forget the japanese language! Enjoy the interview after the cut!
“Marugoto: In Korea you guys were well known for being fashion leaders, so what is a noteworthy fashion item for this summer?”
Taeyeon: Because sleeveless shirts and mini bottoms [are more common during] the summer, I think it’s fun to wear vintage bracelets on one’s arms and legs.
Hyoyeon: Wear simple clothes with big accessories. It’s cute to layer several bracelets and wear wrist watches.
Tiffany: This year I’ve noticed [that] floral-printed one-piece dresses and airy long dresses [are really popular, even] in my neighborhood.
Sunny: Of course short shorts are in! Short shorts are really popular among the SNSD members right now.
Sooyoung: Oh yes! Long shirts are also stylish to wear.
Jessica: Plaid shirts are also good.
Seohyun: If you add comfortable strappy shoes, then you’ve already perfectly completed SNSD’s summer style.
Also, when the interviewer further probed what else was popular amongst SNSD members:
Seohyun: We watch TV. We monitor our performances on programs.
Hyoyeon: Another thing that’s popular is fruit. We love them and we’re always preparing them on location.
Yoona: “In June, we were all watching the World Cup. It was really exciting!
Yuri: Since it’s summer, we often eat shaved ice/snow cones and ice cream!
Logically, the girls were asked how the girls are coping with the Japanese language and what their favourite words were:
Taeyeon: I’ve been interested in Japanese culture since middle school and I studied Japanese a little bit. My favorite word is… “Yatta!” (Hooray!/I Did It!/Success!)
Tiffany: Because I like Hayao Miyazaki ’s works, I am studying by watching animes like ‘My Neighbor Totoro.’ But I’m still a beginner….
Hyoyeon: Right now, we’re all getting lessons through our office, and we are also studying by listening to Japanese songs and watching Japanese dramas.
Jessica: I like the standard phrase “Aishiteru” (I love you). I also like the way “Chotto zutsu” (a little bit) sounds – it’s cute.
Yoona: I can’t really participate in the lessons at the office very much so I’ll tell you [how I study] in the future. My favorite Japanese phrases are “doki doki” [sound of a heart beating) and “arigatou gozaimaso” (thank you).
Sunny: Weeell, this is a question, but is it true that you can hold a conversation with just the words “Doumo” and “Douzo?
In response to Sunny’s question, the interviewer said, “Yes, you could say that – nice discovery, haha!”
The interviewer then proceeded the ask about their feelings about their Asia tour concert in Japan on August 25 in the Ariake Coliseum, as well debuting in the Japanese market:
Sooyoung: I’ve already lived in Japan before. I love Japanese food, so I was really happy.
Sunny: It’s going to be a new challenge. At first I was worried about things, but now I’m really looking forward to it!
Yuri said “Fight!/Faito!” (Fighting!/Hwaiting!) Because I’m together with the members, I have more anticipation than anxiety.
Yoona: I’m naturally worried about language so I had better do my best and study more Japanese.
And of course, when the interviewer asked to specify a J-pop song they are good at singing during karaoke sessions, JeTi Jessica and Tiffany prevailed with:
Jessica: Mika Nakashima’s “Yuki no Hana,
Tiffany: BoA’s ‘Possibility.’ In addition to that, I also like M-Flo; I have all of their albums.
Marugoto: Lastly, please tell us your goal for Japan.
Taeyeon and Yuri closed the interview by saying they will try their hardest:
Taeyeon: I want to quickly let everyone in Japan hear, see and feel SNSD’s music and stage performances. Please look forward to us!
Yuri said, “I’ll work hard so fans will fill up all of the big venues. Everyone, let’s have fun this summer!“
