Awhile back we had posted that SNSD was to win the Pop Music Award at the Korea Republic Art and Culture Award. Today was the actual ceremony where the girls received the award! The ceremony was held at the Seoul Olympic Park Gymnastic Stadium.
The award recognized the girls’ achievements with their 2nd full length album Oh! that sold up to almost 200,000 copies AND not only that, but for their amazing success at topping the Oricon Charts in Japan. Once they were on stage, the girls stated “Thank you for presenting us with such a meaningful award. Thank you to all of you who love SNSD’s performances. We will show you the SNSD who work hard within the country and overseas.”
As always, these girls never stop trying their hardest 🙂 Congrats ladies~
Here’s their performance from the award show today!

Plus I miss seeing them perform again 🙂 Thanks for the article!
they deserve this to be the best girl group in the world, fighting!!!!
Good to see another performance of “Hoot” (one of my favourite songs 😉 !). Only problem was the sound was a bit “wonky” in the video at the beginning :(. Yes, the girls sure know how to appreciate and reciprocate a compliment when it is received 🙂 ! That’s why I LOVE the 9 ladies because their work ethics and life values are so 깜짝 놀라게 하기 !!!
Great 🙂
SNSD Fighting!!

Yoona moved to her right instead of her left, lol!
They always promise to work harder, but aren’t they working hard enough already lol?
Did sunny dye her hair again? Can’t tell

SBSD, fighting! ^^
That was a cute performance! And VERY good to see! The girls look as stunning as ever!
all the variations on the “we will show you a hard-working SNSD” are cute, but i always understood it as just something they say – as a reflection of their culture, sort of like how americans apparently believe that “be yourself” is really the best piece of advice ever. but like the Sooyoung comment that everyone likes about maintaining the “rookie mentality,” i wonder just what will keep the Girls going moving into the future. especially after all the bombastic spectacularity of 2010, the successes and the struggles… it takes a lot of will and commitment to really keep doing things for the same reason for a long time. if they’re moved by the question of achievement, i’m certain it’s vague how much “higher” they can go – never mind how much work this past year asked of them. and “achievement,” will eventually blur the line with mere success or money or popularity for their own sake. “for the fans,” “for each other,” i mean those are great things to say and even better to really feel and believe, and they are excellent reasons to keep working, but unless they all have zealot mentalities (and as far as I can tell, they’re all too balanced to say that they do) those reasons can only sustain them for so long – after all, those reasons do not answer “keep working at what?” “why am i working at this for (whomever)?”
of course, all these things are easier to ignore the busier you are, but they’re always there, begging to be answered. it’s like addiction, they can allay these questions with further successes, but each success will demand more and more of them, given the nature of the industry, and reward them with less and less feedback as they become inured to it all. this saying “we will work harder,” it reflects a humble attitude, but again, what work they do is largely decided by the company, and humility towards a human master tends to encourage resentment in the servant and exploitation by the master – not that they are inevitable and unavoidable, but it’s walking a tightrope, needing perspective and plain old goodness in both parties. i mean, when they say they’ll work harder, it’s not that they’re the ones coming up with things to do, in their work arrangement it means they’re going to put more and more effort into completing the tasks asked of them (by their handlers).
it’s sort of like being in sports and being #1, with all the mental demands, except that athletes tend to be limited to achievements within their field, and that field is largely defined and limited to a season, or a tournament, what have you – anything else they do is just a side project or a distraction. SNSD, of course, has album releases, the content and timing of each decided by the company, and each of those things have those crazy live performance commitments, and then they have solo projects, and then they have product endorsement commitments, and then they have tv and radio broadcasts whenever they do, and then they have special events in which to participate, and then the constant practice and training behind the scenes to maintain their craft, and then all those other things that don’t come to mind right now.
i don’t mean to be a downer, though, you know, the words and ideas just flow, and sometimes i don’t decide not to post it. i mean, so long as they’re smiling, it means they have a reason that’s good enough for them.
Wall of text
@People who immediately respond “Wall of Text” the minute they see one.
Is that all? Here’s a song for ‘ya.
The wall of text comes crashing down, crashing down, crashing down.
The wall of text which makes no sense, oh thy bick knock bicker knocker rah!
Say it with me again!
Oh! The wall of text comes crashing down, crashing down, crashing down.
The wall of text which makes no sense, oh thy bick knock bicker knocker rah!
Sorry, impromptu thinking and Archie Comics got me to respond. The “Oh thy bick knock bicker knocker rah!” part is not meant to make any sense.
I have been meaning to reply to this but many things got in the way. I have noticed they always say “we’ll continue to work hard (harder)” every time they make an acceptance speech which starts to sound like standard cliche. I have also thought a lot about the sports comparison, since I am a huge Los Angeles Lakers fan. The Lakers are in a similar situation, being the champions for the last two years, this supposedly dominant team often lose motivation and focus and it’s really frustrating to watch and makes fans wonder what it will take for them to continue winning. I guess the saying “It’s easy to reach the top, but much harder to stay on top” really applies here.
But I think there’s something fundamentally different in music, because theoretically, the sky is the limit. While for the NBA or any professional sports, the championship is the highest level of achievement and the best that any team can do is to match that achievement with no possibility of ever exceeding it. The other difference in music is that success is largely based on the relationship between the artist and the fans, because it is the fans who determine the album sales and chart performance, whereas in sports, your competitors will easily spoil your party, and the fans’ impact is rather low. SNSD, while arguable already peaked in Korea, still has lots of room to grow, particularly in Japan, and they can still sell more albums considering how much fans they have across Asia. Selling 200,000 album may sound like a lot, but I hardly believe there’s only 200,000 fans out there, so there’s definitely still room.
While I do agree it takes a lot of sustained motivation to keep up the winning, I do see that the girls are still hungry for more success, whether it be fame or fortune, you can’t ever make enough money in this world, I don’t care what motivates them but as long as they’re motivated then it’s a good sign for fans. SNSD does realize that what they have going on is special and it’s a once in a lifetime type opportunity, if handled correctly they have a chance to become one of the greatest Asian entertainers of all time. So why not grab life by the horns and keep the pedal to the metal? Perhaps it takes even a setback for them to become even more motivated, and I’m not ruling out that possibility, many successful artists have reached plateaus and released material that was disappointing, but that can be used as motivation to make a stronger comeback.
As SNSD continues to rise, the amount of input and freedom they get on their work should increase as well. What music companies have learned is that by allowing a higher degree of freedom, it keeps the artists more motivated, because people are always more inclined to work harder on things they have direct input on. Last but not least, I have faith the Soshibond will keep everything in check, they won’t be lacking motivation, not for an extended period of time at least.
Ahh, really awesome to see them perform together again! It’s been too long ;p ❤
miss them so much. have a good rest girls. you look so tired.
