[Updated] SNSD Win Best Female Group and Artist of the Year at the 2011 MAMA!

On November 29, the 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards were held in Singapore…

This year’s MAMA, which was broadcasted live through various websites, kicked off with the red carpet event: the girls, dressed in stunning gowns, walked the red carpet with maturity and poise as they greeted fans before the big show. Suffice to say that their dresses more than accentuated their womanly figures.

During the ceremony, SNSD performed a special stage titled “Girls become the Goddess.” The powerful, almost theatrical, opening dance featured the girls split into various units, each group performing their own explosive dance routine (with the exception of (lazy girl) Jessica gliding across the stage on a swing), before coming together in formation of ‘The Boys.’

To the surprise of everyone watching, the familiar music of ‘The Boys’ suddenly transitioned into a fast-paced, overpowering, bracing as hell, electro-heavy remix of their title song. The Korean lyrics transitioned into the English ones, the choreography was expanded upon and embellished, and the girls were now dancing at 1,039 beats per minute. Absolutely outstanding performance from – not a girls’ generation – but a goddesses’ generation. Check it out below.

Finally, SNSD were nominated in three categories for this year’s MAMA, including Best Female Dance Performance, Best Female Group and Artist of the Year. Among the many winners, SNSD took home Best Female Group and the noteworthy Artist of the Year. The girls could not contain their excitement during their acceptance speeches, as they thanked staff, family, fans and everyone at SM Entertainment.

SNSD will return to Singapore for the third leg of their 2nd Asia Tour on December 9 and 10. 2011 has proven to be a truly successful year for our girls. Congratulations!

  19. I was there in person at the awards ceremony and I can honestly tell you that I never in my wildest dreams expected them to win 2 top awards 😀 😀 😀 !!!
    When the remix “The Boys” came on, I was basically “blown away” 🙂 !!!
    I freaked out and screamed like the rest 😀 !

  25. honestly i didn’t expect these awards! 3 weeks ago leading in the poll for Best Female Group and Artist of the Year were 2NE1 and Super Junior, respectively! due to fan wars and connivance, so i gave up voting, haha, and got busy at work, wow! so this is a big big surprise for me! and it turns out, i’m a weak SONE, i’m ashamed of myself, didn’t have the confidence :(, lesson learned! and CONGRATS SOSHI!

  27. Guys, the winners are not chosen just from fan voting. That would be stupid. For most categories only 10% and 20% of viewer votes were used. But since they do make up a part of the judgement, if you voted, you did your part. So congratulate yourself along with our beloved 9.

  44. Congratulations to the girls for winning one of the biggest awards of the night. They really didn’t need any trophies to prove they’re the biggest driving force of Kpop at the moment, but it was nice to see them getting further acknowledgement from MAMA as well as the fans in Singapore and all over the world. I can’t get over how happy they genuinely are, the rookie mentality never left them, and every award they win feels like it’s their first. A bunch of kids jumping around laughing and crying on stage, it’s just a great sight to see. I really didn’t think SNSD can continue to climb and sustain their growth in popularity for so long. How I love to be proven wrong again.

    1. This is one of the Secrets of why SNSD keep on winning. It is because they appreciate every win they have to the fullest, therefore they keep attracting more wins.   55. Huh and ya think ya know a gal. I’ve seen these girls so many times far and near and i just noticed their breast sizes o.O? why is that? To be honest I really forgot that they had them seeing that that’s not my main focus when it comes to these ladies. But with those dresses you can’t help but notice them ^^ and i like what i see!!!

  57. I came to Singapore for the holidays with a couple of friends and it was a total blast to watch all of the various K-pop artistes strutting their stuff onstage at an acquaintance’s house, especially the girls. Congrats to ’em on winning one the biggest awards of the night!
